Has anyone had any experience with mixing a small amount of Honest Kitchen in with a normal helping of Acana kibble?

Karen, I have three five pound bags of the Regionals (Ranch-lands, Wild Prairie, and Pacifica) in my storage area and she refuses them. I plan on offering her The Honest Kitchen tonight alone and will stick to it, as you have suggested that we must do in many of your previous posts.

You may have read this one before, but if not, it's a must read. My favorite discussion on 'picky eaters", and it's funny, too.

One thing I noticed about JD is that he is always more interested in kibble when it's a newly opened bag. You really don't want to keep kibble sitting for a long time, even if the bags are well-sealed. Having three different bags of Acana open at once, I have to assume that none of it smells or tastes as appealing as they did when they were brand new. I'd stick with one bag at a time, if you continue to buy kibble in the future.

Karen, I decided last evening to follow your advice and not mix the kibble with the Honest Kitchen. I prepared the HK and after a little taste testing by Wynnie, she ate the entire serving with full gusto. This morning, as I was mixing the HK, she actually was barking in anticipation and then she Hoovered her breakfast. Now the test will be whether or not she will get bored with the HK, as she has done many times in the past with her kibble. I hope not! Wish us luck.

Glad to hear this. I hope she continues to like it plain.

The downside to HK is that if the dog doesn't want to eat any given meal, you can't just put it back in the package for the next meal, so if the day comes that she stops eating it, we'll have to figure out something else, lol.

Well Karen, you were very prescient. My picky puppy, ate a very very small amount and turned her nose up at the rest. I think that we should form a therapy/support food group where we look to others to give us the backbone needed to keep us from giving in to our picky puppies. It would be like AA only for picky puppy owners. LOL...

LOL, I'm glad you can maintain a sense of humor about it!
