Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello,

I am new to this group. I am getting my goldendoodle next Saturday from lil doods in Mattawa, WA. I am wondering if any of you have gotten your goldendoodle from that breeder or know anyone else who has? Any info would be great, thank you!

What kind of info are you looking for?  Just to connect with potential siblings or something else?

To find siblings, and to see if people are happy with that breeder. I have done some research on goldendoodle breeders in WA, but I can't find a lot of information about that breeder. I find word of mouth to be very helpful when researching anything.

Hi Christina, I'm about to run out for the afternoon, but I took a quick look at Lil Doods' website - specifically at the breeder's health warranty. I would be concerned about the fact that the warranty is limited to hip dysplasia and eye issues. If I were you, I'd ask to see documentation of the overall health testing for your puppy's parents and grandparents - at a minimum. Also, hip dysplasia doesn't always rear its ugly head within the first two years. And, what exactly are "eye issues?" I would want a host of other potential health problems to be covered under the warranty, as well. Have you been to the breeder's home or do you know anyone who has been there? That would be key to me, too. And perhaps most importantly, be sure to understand that all doodles aren't guaranteed to be as wonderful, personality-wise, as the website claims, nor are they always allergy-friendly. Got to go. . . Just be sure to do your research before you bring home your puppy, as he or she will hopefully be with you for a happy and healthy lifetime.

I had the same concerns about lack of any mention of genetic health testing. The price is lower than most reputable goldendoodle breeders, which may be a reflection of lack of health testing on the parent dogs; most breeders are proud of the fact that their breeding dogs have been thoroughly tested and mention that with the parents' information, or at least somewhere on the website. I would ask to see proof of testing and also ask how old the parents are. Feeding Purina Puppy Chow is another indication that perhaps corners are being cut.

And four litters on the ground at one time is too many, IMO.

This is an email response I got from the breeder today after I asked several questions about testing:

Hi
Oh, so many questions!! I have OFA on Bandit. I have OFA on Lil'Red's dad and granddad as well as her grandma.
I will give you the vaccination record for your puppy. We do our own vaccinations on our adults. Lil'Red is clear
of PRA and vWD through parentage. Once a dog passes that test you don't have to test any of their offspring
and her granddad as well as her dad is cleared.
I do understand that you need to do your research and you have done that. I don't have testing on Lil'Red
and this is her last litter so I didn't do that this last year. I have had no health problems from any of her other
litters. If that is a concern to you I am happy to refund your deposit. Just let me know
VaLois

So the mother has had no health testing at all. :((((

And it doesn't sound like her mother had any testing done either.

And the sire has only had hips done.

I have looked into it and the power price is do to not microchipping or neutering the puppies before they are taken home. I actually agree with that practice. I think that 7-8 wks is young to neuter a dog.

A microchip costs 10 dollars.

I agree with not doing ESN, but that's not the reason for the lower prices. A LOT of GD breeders who charge over $2000 for a puppy don't do ESN either.

This breeder isn't even paying a vet to give her dogs vaccinations. No testing, cheap food, no vet visits...that's the reason for the lower prices.

Ok, that is fine but in WA there are only a few GD breeders and most perform ESN. I am only referencing WA breeders. I don't feel comfortable buying a pup that is out of state and having the puppy shipped. The lower cost in this situation as I am merely pointing out is due to a lot of factors including but not limited to neutering the puppy.

I just sent you a friend request. I'm in WA and got my GD from Oregon.

I agree with you! She seems to be taking shortcuts!
