Questions for my fellow doodle moms and dads
Emma recently started to go back underneath the table. It happened after I came back from my holidays in June. My aunt was looking after her while i was away for two weeks. Since June, she loves going under the table. After a walk, she goes straight under the table. Its become like her safe haven there. she used to go there when she was a baby.. and then she left that phase. I dont know what I can do to help her. Ideas?
thanks !

My ten year old Springer can ALWAYS be found under the table if someone is sitting there. He was un-cratable as a pup but he loves the den the table creates.
Quincy used to climb under my chair at the kitchen island when he was a pup, but got too big to fit. He would still like to be there, he just puts his head under now!
When Lucy and Sophie were little they were always playing under something. Lucy to this day loves to be under my desk and anything else she will fit under. After we lost Sophie and we traveled to FL with just Lucy for the first time she was very insecure and when we would eat out in public she would go under the tables. I could definitely tell that she wasn't doing that in the same way that she liked being under things. She was very insecure and nervous being out without Sophie. AnnaBelle is the same way. If we take her somewhere alone if she gets nervous she will go under the table. So, while I think it is something they enjoy doing, it can also be something they are insecure. I can tell the difference with mine. I would never expect them to do it as an insecurity thing at home though.
Calla loves to go under tables and I don't think it's fear based. In the kitchen she hope's for crumbs : )
I think dogs just love to have a special place for their "cave". My ALD loves to crawl behind the free-standing stove in the living room, but he'll get over that quickly when we start to build fires. He just feels protected there. My new little dog likes to crawl under the covers on the bed and play chase (Jack Russell part of him, I'm sure) and sit by my feet at the computer stand. I was worried about the cords, but he never seemed to be interested and does not go there when I am not at the desk. Problem with her being under the table? If she was begging while people were at the table, that would be a problem, but when nobody is there? Let her have her safe haven.
My doodles do not hang under the table but they do walk under to get to the other side, both are really to big to hang there. When I had Shih Tzus they would be under the table all the time. I think some dogs just like hanging there and its really no be deal, its just where they like to hang :)
I agree with everyone else, I think that is her safe place. No need to worry!
