Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone! I'm a new doodle mom to a beautiful girl named Trudy. She is a 5 month old Australian labradoodle. I believe her color is called sable but I'm not positive. Honestly it's not a color I've seen much of. Trudy is such a sweet girl and is fitting in very nicely with our family. She has a very calm disposition most of the time but gets some crazy puppy energy in short bursts throughout the day. Our French bulldog, Walter and mini poodle, Jayme are doing great with her. At first Jayme was not impressed but lately he's been playing with her. I was worried about having 3 dogs but she fits in so nicely with our family. I'm not worried anymore! I've hopefully attached a picture of her after the first trim I gave her the week we brought her home.

Thanks for the warm welcome :) Unfortunately I'm on an iPad

Welcome to DoodleKisses.  It is a great site for sharing information about our great dogs.  Your little dog looks a lot like our ALD, but faces are very different.  Does she have a tri-colored head?  Our guy has a little white face.  You did a great trim.  Keep practicing, it only gets easier.

I would say her head is mostly gray/black and tan/brown with black around her eyes. She does have some cream color on her chin in her beard. It's hard to describe but I guess it's more two colors I instead of three :) I've been cutting my mini poodles hair for a couple of years now and he's had some pretty interesting grooms lol. Hopefully I can do a doodle cut on my girl and not make her look like her mini poodle brother. Haha! I'm sure it will take some time to learn how to get that doodle face since all I know is how to do a clean shaved face.

I think what you need to go for is a rounded shape for the head.  You don't want a "pomp" on the top of her head, and the top of the head, the length of the ears and the chin should make a nice circle.  I shave between the toes (1 mm), from the back of the mouth  to the ears,  the inside of the ear flaps, and the belly and sanitary area (6 mm).  The rest I do with a scissors.  We have plenty of time and usually take two days to do a complete trim, bath, and blow dry.  Experiment until you get the cut you want.  My dogs (the last five) have never been to the groomer.

Thanks for the tips!

Congratulations...she is just beautiful...love her coloring...so glad the other dogs in the family are enjoying her...wishing you all the best!

Thank you! She was the last one left in her litter. We are so lucky because her color and temperament are perfect for us.

Welcome!  What a gorgeous doodle!

Thank you. We are really happy to have her,
