Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a 7 month old Goldendoodle that has a beautiful wavy/curly coat. I really like the longer, shaggy look, so I haven't had her to the groomers yet. I have been shampooing her about every 3-4 weeks, blowing her out and scissoring off some of the longer strands. She is starting to lose more of her puppy coat in recent weeks.

Anyway, Winnie came home from Doggy Daycare yesterday after having received a "complementary bath" because her and another pup got dirty. (I can only imagine what they rolled in- there isn't any dirt on the property! haha) Anyway, after the bath she wasn't blown out- just air dried. Thankfully, I have kept her coat well brushed, so it didn't take too long to comb through all of her curls and thick coat when I got her home. But, she still looks pretty "rag taggy." And, she smells good but isn't near as soft as she usually is after a bath. Maybe it was the shampoo they used?

Would I be wrong in rewashing her and blowing her out? I don't want to dry her skin out. And, it would really only be for my own selfish reasons- I love her all soft. :-) Or, should I just suck it up and wait a few weeks?

I would suck it up and wait a few weeks.  :)

Try spritzing her with water.  Maybe her own texture will  appear again.    A few weeks goes by quickly  :)

you can always just get her wet and blow dry her out. Its the shampoo and conditioner that will dry her out. so since she is already clean just rinse her off and blow her out..

I see no reason NOT to wash her, if you are unhappy with her feel. Enzo has gotten bathed up to 3 days in a row! She gets bathed everytime we get back from the beach ( just in case of sand fleas), and she gets bathed every time we come back from the dogpark. She manages to get slimed and muddy. As long as your not doing this on a regular basis, you are not going to dry her skin out just this one time. Enzo just had a bath today....her last one was about a week and a half ago. No dry skin and her coat is soft and glossy.

Thanks for you input, everyone!

It's supposed to be in the 80's here this weekend, which is unheard-of up here in Sept. So, I think I'll get her kiddie pool out for one last romp of the year, and blow her out afterwards. And, maybe just shampoo her head and ears- gotta have those super soft ears! :-)

just curious....what kind of shampoo are you using? Always looking for suggestions :)

I use the Tropiclean products. They have a number of different scents, but live the kiwi. Enzo always smells so cuddly good! You can find the best prices on Amazon.

I use Tropiclean as well and always will. I LOVE it- we use the kava scent. It's smells nice without making Ragley smell like strong perfume and she is always SO soft. It's soap free as well, so I don't have to worry about irritating or drying out her skin and hair if she needs extra washing. We have tried quite a few different types from various companies who have sent samples, but Tropiclean is the clear winner.

LOL...that would be : love the kava!

I use Minksheen- it makes her super soft and I love the smell!
