Thinking of adding another dog & getting Stew a buddy!

I know Stew has been a challenge but I've got puppy fever & Stew was a pretty great puppy. I'm not sure I'd want to use Stew's breeder again, only because she's breeding a lot of reds lately & I don't think I'd want another red.

I'd definitely want another wavy/straight coat mini GD. Probably a female. I'm willing to be on lists for a bit also, maybe even get one this summer/next fall again. Any recommendations for breeders in the Philly/PA/NJ area? I can also look in MD/DE/VA.

Name suggestions while we're at it. I can't think of anything to go with Stew/Stewby Doo/Stew Man Chew?

Hi! I'm new to this group. I must say, the best hing I did for my boy Bruin was to get another dog. My dogs are brother and sister (one litter apart), so they are a year apart - but because they are both young they play like puppies! They are 1 1/2 yrs old and 4 months old right now - pup was 7 weeks when we got her. They exhaust each other playing and running. She puts him in his place and loves to cuddle - and I think he thinks she is "his" pup. He is helping us train her -which is amazing to watch. However he is also teaching her his bad habits... Yeah, they destroyed a few things around here together. My vet said dogs live longer with a partner, so this was a no brainer. The beginning is tough, but all puppies are... It's so worth it. I am glad I made this decision - two pups, twice the love!

Oh Jess- you are going to contribute even further to my puppy fever! Unfortunately for me, it is out of the question right now with living/financial/etc, but I know that I want another someday down the road and that Ragley would love to have a friend. We have a Great Pyrenees, Bella, that lives with us as well, but if you know anything about the breed then you know that they are not the most playful of dogs hah. Bella is almost 5 (older for a pyr) and she tolerates Ragley's playful advances most of the time and returns the playing every now and again, but I would love for Ragley to have another dog that would match her social tendencies. I think you have a lot of circumstances to consider and things to remember from Stew's puppy phase, but ultimately it is your decision! What about "Daphne" for a name? It goes along with Stewby Doo!

I love the picture, they are totally besties! I'm enrolling Stew in a CGC class now that he's older than a year and I feel like I'll finally get back on track having other people/dogs around to feed off of. Stew was honestly mostly frustrating to me because I was living alone and couldn't ever get any break (aside from when he was sleeping!). He's great now, it's like he turned 1 year and a switch flipped in his brain! He's suddenly much more relaxed, goes into his crate on his own and is much more obedient. Guess he figures he's a big boy now!

At the very least, I MAY get a puppy in the Fall of next year if I decide to get onto the next list my breeder has but I want to look at other breeder options first. Hopefully I'll get some PM recommendations! I like Daphne a lot, it was in the running if Stew was a girl!

We just started CGC too! And Ragley has never been too difficult, but I have definitely seen a personality change over the past couple of months as well! I guess Ragley got the "big girl" bug! We love doing classes though so I don't mind the extra work of CGC- you guys will love it!

Canine Good Citizen.

We're testing for CGC next week! (Though George is a bit young, honestly) we have two that are six months apart. Definitely a challenge. Luckily ours are great together and financially we are able to buy LOTS of bully sticks and Himalayan chews and obedience classes. They are 4 and 10 months now and we have a routine, a rhythm if you will and it works quite well. We've settled and we are unanimously "done at two!"

The big thing with ours was that George was "my" dog, SO didn't really help and that was the agreement. Well he fell in love and wanted a dog for "him" now we share all the responsibilities and so I probably don't have an accurate idea of the increase in work!

In my opinion, having a second cuts the work in half. They entertain each other and really true each other out.
