Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello all,

My  5 month old goldendoodle Jinx loooovves water! I mean he is obsessed with it! If I can't find him he is probably in the bathtub trying to figure out how to turn on the water... (god help us when he finally does figure it out). Anyways... I am currently using K9 advantage II because that is what my vet offers and after a couple jumps in the pool or swim in the river, I find a few fleas on him.  Nothing crazy just a few stray fleas but I am worried that will lead to a lot of fleas! The vet wanted to give him Treflexis but I said no because it scares me.

Anyone else have a water loving doodle and has found the best waterproof flea and tick medication??

Madeline has used the Trifexis and hasn't had any problems. She loves the water as well.
We use the Seresto collar and it's great! It's a new type of flea and tick collar where the med is made embedded in the plastic polymer so it's waterproof. It's good for 8 months usually but my vet says only six if your dog is in water a lot. It's not expensive and available on amazon. We have been using for four months with no problems! I love it and it's so easy!

Hmm this sounds like a good option... I will definitely look into it!

Enzo spends half her life in our pool. She is also on Trifexis, without ever having a problem and Frontline Plus for ticks. Haven't had any issues at all concerning fleas or ticks.
Ro, I'm just curious about how you use the frontline. We've used it for several months, but it so hard to feel like I've gotten into Yogi's skin with his fur being so thick. I bet at least half ends up in his fiur and seems to matt it.
It's a challenge for sure! I actually cut Enzo's hair a little bit closer around the top of her neck, just to apply the Frontline. I also wet the surrounding hair a bit, so I can see her skin. So far, it appears to work well. I then keep her out of the pool for at least 24 hr. Good news is, if she does happen to sneak in, she usually doesn't go in over her neck/ back when no one is playing with her. She just " wallows" like a hippo.
I use Trifexis too for heart worms, fleas and other worms. I do not like the topical tick meds so I am trying Bravecto. It is new and it kills fleas and ticks for 3 months or 12 weeks. My dogs just took their first dose this morning. I will let you know how it goes if you are interested. My Vet says it is suppose to start killing fleas within the hour! It is not cheap but cheaper than 3 months of topical meds. I hope this helps!

Yes that does help! Let me know how it works for you.

Jamie, I have had Bravecto on the dogs for 2 months and I love it! I have noticed no side effects and no fleas or ticks! We live in the Hampton Roads area of Va and we have our share of fleas and ticks! Hope the update helps! It is a soft chew tablet! They ate it like a treat!
