I'm slightly concerned because every plastic toy I give charlie so far, he rips and eats. My mom bought him a "super tough and durable" (so it was labeled...) ball and he ripped a hole in it within 5 minutes. In the last two days he's eaten that, more plastic from another ball, and got a hold of my hair clip and chewed that up. He also ate my foamy ear plugs the other day but he pooped those out. I'm a little worried about the plastic though? Do you think it's harmful? He's acting fine, eating fine, pooping fine.

What toys are reccommended for chewers like Charlie?? He loves the himalayan chews but can finish one in an hour. The antlers he likes but is not crazy about. He LOVES a ball and so far only has one that he has not managed to rip up (yet). I'm thinking anything Kong??? I feel so limited now. He has some stuffed animals that have no stuffing in them and he hasn't ripped those up yet thankfully.

ALSO, I keep reading about toys that are good for their brain and mentally challenge them. What kind do you use?

Thanks!! :)

Spike does the same thing. He demolished a jolly ball that's supposedly made with horse grade plastic. What's worked for us are the nylabone dinosaurs and galelleos.

Oh wow haha okay thank you very much!

No problem! The nylabone Dino's and galelleos (he has the biggest one of those they have. If he drops it on my foot I know it!) are worth a try. They won't break the bank either! Bonus!
Spike chews away for hours on end on them. No stray bits and nothing to swallow. Bonus!!! As for brain toys I'm looking for those too but all the ones I've seen are made of thin plastic. Interactive? Not so much... Dinner?! Oh yes!
As far as other toys. His red kong has lasted him. He also has a rubber ball that has octagon holes all over it. He hasn't demolished it either. I just can't remember the company that made it.
They have other heavy duty nylabone chew toys that haven't been tested by us yet. They are for under the Christmas tree!
Please let me know if you come across anything that works!!! We are running low on toy variety. I've had to pack all the stuffies away :(

I will definitely keep you posted! Have you tried the antler chews? They're pretty good. He had a cow's hoof too that's lasted him a while. I know exactly what ball you're talking about with the octagon holes. I will definitely look into the ones you've mentioned!

As many here know because of my crazy posts, Hoka just went through 2 major abdominal surgeries due to shredding/eating toys.  We are so lucky he survived. Not to scare you, but to try to avoid this for other dogs.  The plastic part in question that caused an obstruction was the squeaker out of a soft toy.  I would not trust him with those.  You could have juts one that you play together with and take away when unsupervised.  I think we had too many and I lost track.\

Hola can also go through he himalayan chews too fast and the same for any rawhide or bully stick- so those are a no go for us.

The things he both likes and cannot totally destroy at this point are: the larger DuraChew nylabones and larger size antlers He only really likes the split variety best- but they need to be big/thick (re: expensive) to be safer.  He has some larger tough balls covered in strong fabric that do squeak, and he likes those. He is REALLY interested in fetching. Those do not have the round pillow squeaker that he ingested.

We have a couple of fun kibble dispensing toys that he bats at and the food falls out as he rolls them around. Hoka LOVES food, so these are fun for him.

Wow that is frightening. I'm very happy to hear that he made it out okay though. I think I will start taking away his toys when we are not around, just in case. Which balls do you buy for him? Charlie loves to fetch. Does Kong work for Hola?  or does he go through those too?

I also am partial to the Nylabone, Kong, and octagon-hole ball (I can't remember the company either!!). These are all super durable toys and make lots of variety, which is key from what we've seen with our pup. If your pup is teething, you need lots of different textures - sometimes they want things that are softer and other times things that are hard - like sticks. We have this toy that actually is a "stick" -- http://www.whitedogbone.com/petstages-durable-stick-dog-toy-large -- Angus really likes this because he loves grabbing sticks when he's outside.

Also, if you want things that "squeak" Kong makes one that squeaks and Angus loves it!

Just an FYI..they now make lots of toys that squeak without squeakers using air flow in the plastic. We have an alligator toy that feels like it has two plastic bottles inside and it boasts that it squeaks "forever" since there's no squeaker inside. You might want to see if you can find one like that next time you're at the store...

It'll say on the package that there's no squeaker part inside.

Oh! As for interactive toys, we've been looking for those too. We just got this one:

Angus doesn't love it - I think because he gets bored too quickly, but you can cut the little parts inside so it dispenses treats faster or slower. It's also made of VERY thick material and squeaks when it's dropped. Angus figured out almost immediately that he can get treats from the Kong or other toys like this by just dropping them on the ground, so these don't keep him occupied long enough :(

The stick!!!! Spike goes CRAZY for that!!! Best outdoor toy ever!!! We have a hard time getting it to remain outside. Haha!

Nylabones and Kongs are pretty durable.
