Kona has had a huge tumor on his side for the past 2 1/2 years. We noticed it when it barely fit in the palm of my hand. The vet did a needle biopsy and determined it was a lipoma, basically a benign fatty tumor. We have had it checked a couple of times. This past week Kona had a little skin tag removed from the inside of his eyelid. A new vet did the procedure, and while he was under she did another needle biopsy of Kona's huge tumor which now fills my hand to the fingertips. The substance she withdrew was bright yellow. She sent it off to a lab and determined it is not cancer within a few days, but now 10 days later I was told it is a staph infection and he has been prescribed Amoxicillin.

I have a Probiotic for him and will begin that 2 hours away from the antibiotic. Any other tips from those well-versed in this kind of thing? Your help is always greatly appreciated. I do not like the sound of staph at all. Thank you in advance.

Thank you, Gail. We didn't know he was sick! He is on a two week course of antibiotics and is only on day 5. He threw up yesterday so I'm guessing the antibiotics are upsetting his tummy even though I'm giving him probiotics and Zantac. I doubled the dose of Zantac yesterday. Hoping it helps more now.

UPDATE:

Kona has completed his course of antibiotics and his tumor reduced in size. We are so grateful that his vet investigated his big tumor on his side as she was removing the skin tag on his eyelid! Kona managed well with the addition of Zantac and Proviable DC to his diet to counteract the destruction of bacteria in his gut while managing the infection. (Kona and Owen were thrilled to be getting peanut butter several times a day so Kona could take his extra meds. Of course if Kona needed peanut butter, Owen "needed" some, too!) Thank you everyone for your helpful advice and your well-wishes for our Kona boy.

Glad to hear this Bonnie, and thanks for updating us!

Thank you so much, Karen.

That's great news Bonnie. Thanks for the update and give your doodle babies a hug from me and Tara!

Thank you, Ricki. Hugs back at ya!

Thanks for the update, Bonnie!   Bye Bye, stinky staph

Thank you, Joanne!

Great news, Bonnie! Who wouldn't want to take their medicine with peanut butter? I don't blame Kona OR Owen! LOL

They get a glob of peanut butter every night with their fish oil. This just meant a lot more globs of peanut butter throughout the day. Kona, being extremely food-motivated was anticipating the peanut butter all day long. I was worried he would be a pesky beggar before the end of the two weeks, but he is over it now. Phew!

YAY!!

;o)
