Hi All,

I could use some advice....I will be starting a new job in February which is located a little more than 90 minutes away from home. Maggie will be commuting with me (she's 13 months old and weights about 36 pounds) and spending her day at a doggie day care. She loves to go bye bye in the car but she's not so great with longer than 45 minute rides...she starts to yawn and get a little antsy. This being said, I was thinking I could crate her in the car (currently she's buckled in the back seat)...but don't know what type of crate to look at that will fit in my car...I have a 2007 Volkswagen EOS...any thoughts?

Thank you!

Just to try to follow your question a little better, why do you think crating will help your dog vs. another kind of restraint?  We don't use a crate, but I might be able to help with other ideas depending on your reasoning.

Well, I have read that when dogs demonstrate excessive yawning, that is a sign of stress/anxiety...so when Maggie rides in the car longer than 45 minutes she starts this yawning thing...so was thinking if I put a crate in the car she would have a safe place to hunker down in when she started feeling stressed....

We use a pop-up shelter you can buckle in the backseat. http://sturdiproducts.com/collections/car-go-pop-up-shelter/product...

Margot grew out of her Sleepypod Air quickly, but we didn't want a harness right now since it's freezing where we live and it would take a while to get her buckled (she wasn't fond of harnesses at the time). I think this keeps her relatively safe and she's more comfortable. She's ~20 lbs now (mini pup) and single size would probably be fine,  but we weren't sure how long she'd get.

Thank you! I will look into this...

Debbie
