Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am reading about the "rescue" doodle Molly...and I love the term "pre-owned" I just became the proud owner of a "pre-owned" 6 year old golden doodle. She has been with us one week today! So far I have had 2 trainers come to my house $220, doggie day care 2 days for socialization $36, heart guard pills for 3 months until we go to the vet $50, frontline $150?, new collar $30. Training collar $239. Bed $50. So when the previous owner wanted $50 for what they considered a re-homing fee (which I thought was reasonable) I assured her the dog was going to be very well taken care of and she actually waived the fee. I guess she had some empathy for the dog...or just really really wanted the dog gone.
She told me she was pregnant and had just married her "best friend" last month and it was HIS dog. She has a pit bull and a 7 year old daughter. So guess who got to leave..yep you guessed it...her new husband's dog. I think I rescued the dog from the "wicked" step-mother" So without further ado, I am proud to introduce our new addition, our "pre-owned" gorgeous...and might I add priceless Miss Elli

Congrats....what a cutie!
Thank-you thank-you...I think she's beautiful too...everyday my heart swells more and more with pride knowing she is with us "furever"
So far only one BIG fight...that was my fault...I trusted I knew more than both of them...heh heh...hence the trainer immediately. Followed advice and recommendations from 2 very trusted trainers and today, which is exactly one week they are doing fabulous...so much better that I anticipated. Elli is absolutely wonderful...I just can't imagine why anyone would not want to put a little effort into their dog to have them settle down so they become a true joy. I so lucked out with Elli because at one time, someone did care about her...I am the 3rd home. I do not know the history from the first home, but the second home she was there for over 2 years. She knows commands and her recall is impressive...in fact I told Skadi if she doesn't shape up I will put her on Craigs list...HA...that's where we found Elli.
Skadi is telling Elli not to behave better than she does and maybe she'll let her stay!
Wow! Wow! Surprise
Congratulations on your Cinderella Doodle ( because you said wicked Step Mother )
Ha Ha that's funny! In fact we had a dog we did name Cinder...short for Cinderella...what a memory jogger. Yes She was a surprise to us too...we were entertaining a puppy but I, sadly, am getting "older" and altho they are the cutest things on this earth IMHO, I am running out of energy. So when I saw Elli and was told she was already potty trained, (even tho she is 6, you never know...) I jumped at the chance...we swayed the owners with Skadi's calendar girl fame...I'm sure that's what won them over...okay okay, that and the big fenced in yard.
That is a beautiful dog! Hmmm, I wonder how long the marriage will last....
Ha Ha OMG that's hilarious! Amazingly this dog is smart and responding immediately to the training. I agree, I think the owner picked the wrong "best friend" to keep.
She is so beautiful! Looks more like a puppy, then a 6 year old.
I am sure she knows how lucky she just got. She is probably feeling bad for the pit bull having to stay THERE!
I wish you many happy times together, forever!
OMD all of you doodle addicts are crackin' me up...That's a good observation, I probably rescued Elli from Bubba the pit bull too...the woman didn't even have the decency to give me ONE measly heart guard pill for Elli, full well knowing Elli was due in a few days...I saw the vet report on Elli from December and the woman's husband had just purchased a year supply of frontline and heartguard for Elli! I know, she was gonna keep it all for Bubba. Plus the "lady" (tongue in cheek) gave us a ratty old leash, and a huge bag of dog food...of course after telling me Elli is sensitive to grain, I had to give the dog food that contained oatmeal and barley away...I was going to leave it for Bubba, but she told me Bubba was fed only filet mignon & pheasant under glass (okay, yes, I made that last part about the steak and pheasant up)
So bizarre how someone who takes care to keep up on frontline and heartgard and knows their dog is sensitive to grain would give that dog away! I guess that's not high level care, but they are things that the typical disposable dog owner wouldn't think about...or so I thought.
