Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey everyone,

We have a 9 week old mini goldendoodle named Remmy. We were wondering if anyone had any tips, tricks, or product suggestions to help in the removal of the eye "boogers" as we call them. Currently we just try to wet around the eyes with a moist papertowel and try to pick them out with our fingernails while he chews a bullystick or other toy. It's really tough! Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks in advance! Mike, Mandy, & Remmy!

Bentley has that problem, also. I don't have any suggestions, other than what you are already doing. I will be interested in hearing what others may share.

No prevention suggestions but I make our guys lay down before their twice daily feedings.  Then I clean their eyes, check their ears etc., give them some love and off they go to their bowls.  Zero pushback, they know it's part of the process and patiently let me do my stuff.

I had the same problem with Spike. Dark eye stains on a blonde doodle. To get rid of them I always wet them and the picked them off gently.
However I have been recently been introduced to the world of pumpkin. Pure pumpkin. Not the pie filling kind. I've been giving him a tablespoon once a day. Big difference already. No more boogers and the staining around his eyes and mouth are going away. Actually his coat seems shinier. I love it!

Great tip!   Thanks so much...we are going to try this.  Do you try to mix it in with his food or just give it to him separately?

I don't mix it. I want to avoid mixing things in food at all costs. I don't want him to start "insisting" or expecting his dry kibble to be garnished. Ha! I give it to him in a separate dish.

ah, good thinking, will put it separate as a "treat"

Who knew!  I have used pure pumpkin when our pup had either diarrhea or tummy upset.  She has always had eye boogies, so will try using it daily.  Also our new little girl is cream color so the tear stains really show.

I hear you!!! Blonde and cream coats are not forgiving! We used pumpkin on and off for tummy upset too. Pumpkin seems to be a fix all for a lot of different issues. And it's natural. Even better!!!

I agree, the all natural aspect makes it so much easier and it is a good all around fix.

when I doubt, I open a can.   Have made a habit of making sure I have several

cans on hand.

Wow. This is so crazy to read. My Marshall is 6 months and has had eye boogers, draining with staining since he came home. On Friday, I started him on pumpkin for upset tummy and have continued till today and yesterday, I notice the eyes looked better than ever. I did not connect the pumpkin. Wonder why it works? And as far as daily, have you notice constipation? I just might continue with this.

I'm not sure about why it works. It's been talked about a lot on here. People at our dog school rave about it. And our vet even mentioned using it. I'm sure the pumpkin kills or neutralizes whatever bacteria causes the stains.
There has been no constipation at all. If anything he has nicer stools. It's been a very enjoyable experience for us all :)

Thank You... I love this site :)
