I read this article and it got me to thinking…..who here has made arrangements for their dogs in the event of their death? http://barkpost.com/shocking-will/

I haven't anything in writing but know if, heaven forbid, something were to happen to hubby and me Molly would go with our son and his gf and Sulley would go with our daughter and her hubby.  Sulley going with Meagan and Mike is kind of ironic as Meagan has stated they aren't having any pets and Mike is not at all comfortable with dogs, however they both adore Sulley and I have no doubts he would be well looked after.

I have heard of entire estates being left to pets for their care, a little extreme in my opinion, or other provisions in wills for a pet's care.  I can't see us actually putting ours in a will but I do have confidence in our kids doing the best for them.

We have a plan. To be honest the hardest part is that so many family and relatives wanted her--it was a little frightening how excited and eager everyone was. We would leave money for continued insurance coverage and long-term health care and food.

lol….don't need anyone planning your demise to get your dog!  I think our son's gf would steal Molly before resorting to anything else!

Good idea about leaving money for the insurance coverage and food.

I have made arrangements and bring it up often. My sons know my wishes but they are young and still nomads in lifestyle.

They also know very well about DK and were told to come here for help, if for one reason or another, they were not able to care for Spud,

Great Idea and a must for everyone with animals

I'll have to say anyone getting them must be a member in good standing with DK.

You've got that right and I know my friends here would protect my dog's best interests and my personal wishes.

We've had some discussions about this in the past. This one is particularly interesting and has some good info about setting up wills and trusts, I think: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/providing-for-pets-after-w...

Just skimmed that, lots of good info, will be going back and doing some reading.

This is a timely question for us, because we just updated our wills to include specific plans for our dogs and their care, or for any dogs that we might have in the future, in case something (G-d forbid) were to happen to me and Barry at the same time. While so many people would take our pups in a heartbeat, I feel better knowing that we have everything in order.

The is something I worry about. I am single, living in Canada and my parents are in England. I know they would willingly take the dogs, but wouldn't want them to have to though the ordeal of a transatlantic flight. I really should write a will or come up with a concrete plan for them. I figured my agility teacher might be able to help find them good homes, or that they may end up with the DRC. I wouldn't trust any other organization to find them homes.
