I have always had the vet remove the dew claws.  After talking with breeders and watching some videos on it I decided I would do my most recent litter of 10.  There are two that have a tiny piece still on it and it is Day 10 since their birth.  I removed them on Day 3.  Would I have any trouble trying to remove it at this late date?

There is definitely a lot of discussion out there on the pros and cons, as well as, with the veterinary community.

I am a physiotherapist, working with people and dogs. A dogs dew claw is his equivalent of a thumb. We don't cut people's thumbs off because they 'might' get in the way!!
Amen :)

I want the breeder of my puppy to have the vet take the dew claw off if that is to be done. The vet has the knowledge and the experience to do it properly. The fact you are asking this question makes me think this should have done by a vet. Please take the puppies to the vet.

Forums are exactly that... asking questions, learning, comparing experiences.  Breeders share information with each other all of the time.  As most breeders, my vet is my best friend.  Anything that I decide to do regarding my breeding program always gets discussed with my vet.  To suggest that I have not discussed this my vet is only an unjustified assumption.  My vet is busy as she should be and I don't go running to her with issues without first thinking it through and researching it myself and then I don't waste her time.  A good breeder has the same philosophy as I do.  Having said this it is not a crime to seek out information regarding other breeder's experience on the same issues.  I was in breeding and showing of Standard Poodles many years ago on a small basis and have been back into raising Goldendoodles for quite a while now.  My puppies are of top quality which means their parents are tested before breeding.  I have been searching for a website that is for breeders since we deal in the same issues everyday.  The great thing about the internet is that we can freely voice our opinions.  The bad thing is that even though a person might be trying to be helpful it comes across as hateful and condemning.  I have been on many sites and have seen the same kind of thing.  Would these same people be so brave to talk that way on a face to face basis?  Discussion is healthy and can be an educational experience.  I would say that truth be known that your dog's dew claws were done by the breeder.  I would almost guess that probably 90% of breeders do their own.  Opinions are okay just be careful what kind of expression is in it.

Discussions often get heated but we do not mean to offend. There is a doodle Breeders Discussion group I used to follow.

But I think many breeders went to a private group, perhaps on FB, that you have to be a breeder to join. Perhaps you can find them.

Thank you.  I will do that.
