It's funny when getting a puppy you worry about so many things but excitement peeing was not on my list. crate training is going OK except when I go to take Stella out of the crate she pees everywhere with excitement and it flies everywhere. I have to bathe her every morning because she is soaked . So not enjoying this. Please tell me she will out grow this. Stella turned 4 months today!

My Addie did the excitement pee as well, although not to the extent that it appears Stella does. Hers was more a little puddle. She is 14 months old now and has outgrown it, although she was almost a year before it totally went away. She was also slow to be reliably potty trained, although I attribute some of that to selling the house and starting to pack when she was 6 months old, but not being able to move into a new house (with 6 weeks of living with relatives) until she was 10 months old.

They usually outgrow this.  In the meantime, I would try NOT to do anything to generate excitement - no baby talk or excited voices when you get her out of the crate. We carried Ned out to potty at first because we felt he couldn't hold it and might have an accident on the way outside.  I don't know if that will help at all.  Perhaps even ignoring her for a bit until she calms down before you open the crate?  Covering the crate - at least it will catch the spray!

Exactly my thought.  My Guinness had problems with excitement peeing when he was a puppy, and it was often triggered by the excitement of the people around him.

My doodle is 8 weeks old today and we brought her home at 7 weeks. We had a couple times where we would get her to walk to the door. By the time I had my coat and shoes on she was peeing. I started getting everything on and I would carry her to the door. Make her walk out. So far that has helped.

My pup did this too. I too take her from the crate quietly, without any verbal acknowledgement, carry her out quickly, and then greet her. This has eliminated the leaving crate excitement incontinence. She still has submissive urination when greeting people outside the crate. She is 17 weeks old.

My parent's pups are 5 months and do this and get overly excited so I position their crate next to the door to the back yard.

When I let them out, I open the sliding door first, then their crate and immediately usher them outside. Most of the time this works, sometimes they end up peeing on the door...lol. But it definitely helps!

It's good to know I'm not alone :) The worst time is first thing in the am. I have to scoop her up in a towel and hold her tight until she stops. Poor pup. I need a raincoat. Hahaha

Are you taking her out during the middle of the night?  If she is holding it all night it might be just a little too much for her.  If you could maybe take her out in the middle of the night it might now be so bad first thing in the morning.

Ollie started doing this around 6 months but now (almost 8 months) seems to be alllmost over it. Yes, he peed on the pizza man about a month ago. So mortified!  I don't think there's anything to really do besides try and take him out before someone comes over OR tell the visitor to ignore the doggie when they come in the house.
