Thank you everyone for all of your input and support. We have decided to abandon the Doodle Quest. We will be getting a Standard Schnauzer in a few weeks. Bottom line was that I just wanted a healthy pup to love. Standard Schnauzers are a healthy and hearty breed and they are very smart.

I just could not reconcile paying $2000 + for a puppy with either no verifiable health history or one whose parents both had OFA prelims of fair and /or were bred too young. Maybe some day I'll be brave enough to take that kind of chance but not so soon after losing Max to cancer.

So, I guess I can't hang around here anymore :(

I will post of pic of our pup when we get him though!

thanks again and happy doodling!

Of course you can hang around here! Congratulations! I can't wait to see photos of your pup. I love Standard Schnauzers, that's one of the breeds I'd consider for my next dog.

HANG!  We love dogs. I would love to have a Standard Schnauzer in the mix.

Dogs are dogs and I am very proud of you for doing such a good job searching for your pup. Bravo.

Congratulations. Cant wait for your update in two weeks  :)

You will love your Schnauzer puppy! We have four Miniature Schnauzers in addition to our doodle. They are terrific dogs and definitely smart. We've had Schnauzers for 16 years and I've always enjoyed their company. I hope you post pics of your new pup!

Congrats and yes stay!!

Many years ago (like 30), we had a Giant Schnauzer.  His name was Ivan and he was absolutely stunning and a great dog.  I hope you do hang around here and also post a photo of your new schnauzer puppy when it arrives.  They are very smart too!

Of course you can stay!  We do love our doodles, but really a dog is a dog.  I'm sure a Schnauzer puppy will drive you to madness the same as a doodle would :-)  Plus, Karen's advice in the Food Group will likely come in handy at some point down the road too.

I anxiously await pictures of you new addition!

Of course you can hang here.  There is lots of great dog information, not just for doodles. And I am sure you have lots of good thoughts you could add to discussions. I think Schnauzers are great dogs.

Please don't leave, you clearly have a love of doodles just like us. I too considered a schnauzer, it's all about the fuzzy face. You did the right thing researching, if all did that there would be a lot less abandonments and perhaps a lot less breeders throwing unhealthy puppies in the mix.

Please share your new puppy with us, can't wait.

I had a miniature schnauzer 30 years ago. My kids were very young when I brought him home. He was a great dog. Very smart. We didn't even train him with treats. He was protective of the kids. One day my 3 yr old daughter got out of the house and went down the street, he went after her and pushed her back home. Luckily we lived on a cul de sac in a subdivision so no traffic.

Our mini-schnoodle was the same way. My son was sick with a fever and sleeping on the couch when he was a about 4 yrs old. I was in the kitchen when I heard the dog barking in the living room-not a common behavior for him. I went to see what was going on-the dog was right next to the couch where my son was having a febrile seizure!

He was so smart he practically trained himself! My kids were 3 and 6 when we got him so I didn't get to spend much time training him other than potty habits and the usual sit and stay. He would sit at the bottom of the stairs every morning and look at me then back at the stairs and back to me until I said "OK" and then he'd run upstairs and jump on the kids beds! Or I could say, "go wake up Sam" and he would run up stairs and go into Sam's room only and wake him up but leave my daughter alone unless I told him to wake her too!

Oh my how scary, good thing he was there to alert you about your son. I hope your son was ok.

Can't wait to see pics of the new puppy.

Oh congratulations, and I can't wait to see a photo of your new puppy!
