What I thought might be a tear on his paw pad is possibly a histiocytoma. Of course he is licking it constantly and the vet was pretty adamant about an E-collar. Yikes. Two weeks of that! He is up and down our bed all night, should be interesting. He said we can try a sock, but can't but any type of restriction around it. I think we will do a sock and watch him while we are home, maybe at night. He is NOT going to like having it on all day. Good news is that a histiocytoma is a benign tumor and can resolve spontaneously. Fingers crossed!

Hoping for a quick resolution of this thing! I am sure it is bothersome for poor Quincy. Beau is OCD on licking when something is bothering him - he just cannot stop. So he is occasionally has to wear a sock. Keep us posted on how is Quincy is doing.
Hoping for a spontaneous recovery and quickly!
Tried a sock, but he got it off. Vet said not to tie it on too tight. We are going out to dinner, so we put the evil collar on (E, anyone knows, stands for EVIL) he is NOT happy. The forlorn looks are pitiful!
anyone have any tips for keeping a sock on without constricting the blood flow?
I think a soft e-collar is a very worthwhile investment. Unfortunately, there are bound to be other times in a dog's life when he needs one.
I hope the histiocytoma does resolve on it's own, and quickly!
I agree with Karen...I bought the smaller collar from PetSmart and Skadi did very well with it...they are troopers at adapting to whatever life hands them :)
Can you try the self sticking (non sticky) medical tape. It just sticks to itself. That is what we used to keep the girls socks on this winter when it was extremely cold out and they couldn't even stand it long enough to potty. It kept their socks on. it is also what I used on Sophie's leg when she had the chemo burn. Comes in all sorts of colors. You can get it in at the grocery by the wound dressing stuff or at tractor supply in like the horse department. Hope it goes away quickly. Lucy has had a couple that finally disolved.
Thanks, I am going to get some tape today and also look for a soft collar. right now I have a knee high stocking on it, tied with the other at the top. It's been on all morning, but he is clearly annoyed. Two weeks with this! ugh.
Hope Quincy is histiocytoma free real soon! I have used the self sticking medical wrap that Sheri mentioned and it is great for keeping a sock on an injured doodle foot! Hope it works for you and that Quincy feels better fast!
I also used a soft collar (an inflatable one) for a foster when she was spayed; she also used it as a pillow and slept so comfortably in it.
We went to Petco and tried on the inflatable soft collar and one made of soft(ish) cloth with stays. Neither kept him from reaching his paw...sigh...We did get the self stick tape with the bitter taste, so we shall have to give that a go. Just worried that no matter what I put on it he will get it off tomorrow as we are both working. He has basically been leaving it today. We soaked his fur in bitter apple.
Thanks again all, for the suggestions and moral support!
Well then I guess work it is for Quincy too, lol!
