No advice with the cat situation, but Kona is adorable. Welcome to DK.
Welcome to DK! Kona is as cute as a button! How are the introductions going so far?
I have a 4 1/2 year old Maine Coon and my Goldendoodle that I brought home 2 weeks ago. They are comfortable around each other now. My cat is very laid back and well behaved. His temperament gave me confidence that their meeting would be quick and easy, and it was!
For the first week, he would actively avoid her and even swipe at her with his paw when she got too close, but he never hurt her. He evaluated her as a non-threat pretty quickly and became very tolerant with her shenanigans. It's like he knows she's just a baby, even though she's the same size as him now!
Right now, he doesn't even mind turning his back on her even if she's right on his tail or even touching him. It's very reassuring to me. Cats and dogs aren't mortal enemies as people always portrayed it- they just need time. I used to put Nala (my doodle) inside her crate and let them sniff each other through the holes. This created a safe environment for both while simultaneously having them meet at a close and intimate range. And I would take the more hyper of the two (which is of course Nala) and let them sniff each other while I hold her.
However you do it, don't worry, they'll start accepting each other very quickly. Hope you find great joy in owning such wonderful companions.
The cats seem to tolerate him unless he's overly playful. Thus far, we've kept them separate but they've had a few short meetings that usually end up with a hiss when he lunges or barks at them. We will continue to work with all three in hopes of them being buddies. :)
Frog tolerated our previous dog; Leo was buddies with her but she was 11 years old and much calmer than our little Kona.
Aaaww he's so cute! Welcome! :)
