My doodle startles easily and, in walks, will bark at something that is unusual for her. I let her approach it, talking in a calm voice, and she will check it out, figure it is okay, and move on. What she chooses to react to sometimes surprises me.

Yesterday, as we were almost back home from our walk, she became alert and started barking. I couldn't figure out what it was setting her off, so I let her lead me to what had caught her attention. It was a different car in my neighbor's driveway that she had paid no attention to earlier when it was parked on the street . I guess I should give her kudos as a neighborhood watch dog.

They truly are amazing dogs and we need to pay attention sometimes to their warnings.  Then there is Libby lets us know about every single person, dog, creature or child walking by "her" window!   LOL

It's always hard to know how dogs are perceiving things around them. Angus does not startle easily, but is a very alert and watchful dog. He is always posted at a window looking out to watch things around the house. They are almost like people sometimes the way they watch and pay attention. Sounds like your pup is very good at noticing when things are different or "amiss"....as long as this does not turn into anxiety it definitely sounds like a helpful behavior for safety!
