Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi y'all! I am new to this group and wanted to pick your brains about my goldendoodle, Teddy:) He is 14 months old and has been having issues with what seems to be lethargy. Though inconsistent, over the last 2 weeks he is not interested in going on walks and when I get him out there he is constantly trailing behind me, stopping to sniff the air, frequently yawning, and will sit down until we turn around and head towards home. This is very unlike him as usually he is quite peppy and often does what I refer to as the 'bucking bronco' routine (jumping up and down and playing tug with the leash- any advice on that issue would be welcome as well!;). He's also been sluggish at greeting us when we get home and at times seems rather uninterested in treats. Yesterday, he was laying down and I asked him to come for a treat and it not only took him a minute to come over (he's a hound for treats) but he also seemed to falter a bit as he was getting up. He's been sleeping instead of playing at night after dinner. However, last night and this morning he seemed to have more pep in his step. So, like I said- kind of inconsistent behavior. Some background- he's had on and off diarrhea since he was a puppy and I think (hope) we've recently gotten him straightened out- he is now eating fromm's pork and pea recipe with a little but of i/d thrown in as well. He is eating and drinking normally and doesn't have any other symptoms. Of course, I've googled lethargy and now have thoughts of heart disease and anemia in my head, but wanted to throw it out to fellow doodle-lovers as well. I do have an appointment scheduled with the vet tomorrow as well. However, I think they think I am a bit of an over-protective mom! ;) Anyway, I'll stop there- any insight you can provide would be much appreciated! Thank you!!! Nicole

I agree with F, he needs to see the vet. I'd stop googling the symptoms, though. That doesn't help, it only makes you worry more. Please let us know what the vet says.
Is his poop totally normal? If not perhaps he has some blockage that causing tummy aches? I think in any case a vet visit is warranted.
Please do not be concerned with what your vet thinks or does not think about be over-protective of your dog. IMO - it is better to be safe than sorry especially when you are dealing the a lethargic puppy. Is it possible he is having a gastritis issue? If his lethargy gets worse I would take him to the vet as asap. Keep us posted. I hope he returns to his normal self very soon.
Hi everyone! Thanks for your insight! I took Teddy to the vet- bloodwork came back with elevated kidney levels. They are doing a urinalysis tomorrow and possibly a tick test (forgot to mention he had a tick attached to him for a week or so before I realized). Praying he is ok- still lethargic and sleepy all the time. I'll keep you posted!
Awww. Poor Teddy. :( I hope you get some answers soon!
Get well soon, Teddy.
Nicole ~ keep us posted. I hope he feels better soon. Are you using a tick control?
Poor baby! Hope he's back on his feet soon!
