Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

As some of you know, we lost our goldendoodle recently to a brain infection. Its only been around a month, but we have already begunconsidering a new pup. My heart still aches about Chester every day and I am sure that it will for a long, long time. That being said, we know we want to share our home with a doodle and have found a pup we are interested in. I would just like to hear what you guys think about it. Thanks!

This may sound terrible, but when my Charlotte was in the vet's after an emergency blood transfusion, I started looking at goldendoodle puppies.  I prayed that Charlotte would be better, but I needed to have a little light in the darkness and for me that meant looking at puppy faces.  I wasn't replacing Charlotte, I would do everything I could to nurse her back to health, but, if she didn't make it there was still life.  My happy ending had Charlotte home from the vet 2 days later and now, 2 years later she is in excellent health.  I would never have replaced the "Charlotte" piece of my heart, but I could add another dog shaped piece to the puzzle of my life so the hole wouldn't be so large :-)

I say go for it!  You seem ready to share your love again so why wait?  It is not disloyal to Chester's memory but a testament to the love you and he shared.

When our very best dog in the world died at 10, we got Kona one week later. It didn't diminish the love for our Golden Retriever we lost, but it did fill the empty places of hearing his footsteps that weren't there any more and the cuddling was a great comfort.

We went for it & put down a deposit for our new boy. He will be reddish like Chester, but probably much lighter. I am still such of a mix of emotion about it. But I am so excited to start a new doodle adventure.

Congratulations on your new boy. He will be your rainbow puppy. The rainbow after the storm.

Just seeing this...CONGRATS! I'm sure Chester would approve of you sharing your heart and love.

Congrats.  I am so happy for you.

Speaking from experience here. While a new pup will never be a replacement, it will certainly help fill that huge gaping hole in your heart, left behind , by the loss of your sweet dog. For me, ( and my husband), it was the absolute best form of Therapy. I cried often, but had our Sweet Girl Enzo near, to help ease the pain. I know everyone handles death differently, but for us, it was the best move.
Go for it. I personally think the highest compliment paid to our lost pets is to get another one. There is a sadness and grieving but nothing makes the heart happier than puppy kisses. Good luck.
