It was time this week for the Girls Annual Vet Checks.  Lucy had not had vaccines since we lost Sophie because the Vet said to be safe, since they were liter mates,  we would only do them every 3 years. She had her rabies so this is the first time she was due for Vaccines.  So, I told them when I made the appointment that I wanted to run Titers on both girls.  I could tell this is something that they don't do a lot of but they gave me no arguments.  Today they called with the results.  Much to my surprise, Lucy is still fine.  She hasn't had anything in 3 years.  AnnaBelle on the other hand is not ok and has to go back for her vaccine.  You gotta wonder, how can that be.  So, now I'm wondering about going forward. Do I do titers every year.

I gave Jack all his puppy shots and then his one year shots..... I then used titer testing for the next three years. I always received a number for his titer. When they titer test, they dilute the sample down x amount of times to see if there is still protection in the diluted portion. Based on the results of that they give you a number, obviously the higher the number the greater the immunity.

When Jack turned five, I couldn't afford to titer test so I just gave him all his shots. He received three years of everything. I was told the three year vaccine is the same dose of the one year except that the three year companies did extended testing to,prove their vaccines worked longer.

That said, I haven't decided if I will go back to titer testing or not..... I most likely will.
