Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Finally! Going to get a discussion started with good (and safe) dog treats!
As a reminder, any treats made from a company listed in our Recommended Foods list will work, so I am not going to list them here. Visit this link for those brands: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/recomme...

I honestly don't think there is anything to worry about from chicken jerky that is sourced in the US and marketed by a reputable company. At this point, concerns about such products are purely anecdotal and rare.
But, you can always give a different type of treat, something other than jerky, and many people here make their own jerky, too. We have discussions and recipes for making your own jerky with and without a dehydrator.
Sorry for the delay - think I captured the new ones: Darford and Spot Farms Pet...
Thanks, Ally.
Karen: Do you know anything about the Zuke's Naturals Mini Treats? We have gotten these sometimes for our pup and they're a really good size for training. I believe it says they're made in Colorado. What are your thoughts?
Here's their website:
Thanks for letting me know! I couldn't find ANYWHERE on their website that indicates that the company is now owned by Nestle Purina. After you mentioned this, I looked on Google and only saw it written in comments from people on Chewy.com. Sneaky :(
Yes, it was a huge blow to us when Zuke's was sold to Purina last year, as we used to recommend the brand highly.
Cloudstar makes some tiny treats similar to the Zuke's minis, called Tricky Trainers. And Fruitables has some tiny ones as well.
Yes we definitely use the Fruitables ones and Angus loves them, but the Zuke's were slightly larger and fit better into his treat toys :( I'll look at Cloudstar to find out where we might get those or if we have to buy online. Thanks!
Thanks! I have never seen the Northern Biscuit company at our pet stores, but I'll keep an eye out for it to see! I'm likely going to have to buy some things online it looks like ;)
Check the store locators on the manufacturers' websites. Lots of people here have been surprised to find small private pet supply stores in their areas that they didn't know existed. Garden & Wild Bird supply stores also often carry the better pet food lines.

Looks like there's a chain of stores in MD called Pet Valu that carries Northern Biscuit. Others as well.
Hah that was the store I was going to check actually! There's one close to our house and close to our puppy's daycare :) There's also a grooming place nearby that sells the Cloudstar while PetValu does not. Thanks for checking!!
