Hi Shauna, we have a very large, very active group here on Doodle Kisses called the Food Group, where you can get excellent information on everything pertaining to feeding your doodle. Please join us.

To answer your questions, you can switch to an adult formula once the dog's skeletal growth is complete, which for a standard doodle is usually between 9-12 months. It can be as early as 6 months for minis. How to transition is a bit more complicated, as it depends on what you are transitioning from, and what you are transitioning to. Info on this in TFG. As to what everyone is feeding, we have a list of recommended food brands in TFG, too. Here's a link: Recommended Brands

And we have lots more, including discussions about how to prevent your dog from becoming bored with his food.

I switched Asta to Orijen 6 Fish when he was 6 months.  It is an als formula.   I made the switch because he had soft stools while on Orijen Puppy.  He loves it and his stools are perfect.  Recently, I've started adding freeze dried  and frozen raw food mixed in his kibble.   We've just discovered frozen raw green tripe and boy is he crazy for it. lol.

I will look into that thank you!

Where do you order your frozen raw green tripe from?

I get it from a local pet store called Mutteropolitian. Here is the web site: http://www.muttropolitandmv.com
I don't know if he ships outside the area.

Hi Rhoda. I used to feel my dogs a strictly raw diet, and I remember reading something about not mixing raw and kibble together in the same meal. If I recall correctly, it is okay to feed raw for one meal and kibble for another, but not both together. Perhaps someone who knows more about this subject can add their knowledge to this discussion.

http://www.pabbyspetpantry.com/forms/rawandkibble.pdf  altho I do not use this company for my raw, the information is interesting.  I have fed my girls raw and a high protein canned and drydog food for years without any problems whatsoever.  They love it all and they look healthy.  In fact I just had labs ran on Skadi for a possible thyroid problem and her labs came back excellent...giving me piece of mind.

Great article.  Good info for anyone considering whether to mix or not.  Thanks for sharing.
