Aspen is 3 months old and has received all of her shots and has been very healthy and active. 2 nights ago around 2AM I woke up to her vomiting. I cleaned it up and thought that maybe she had eaten something that didn't settle well but by morning she had thrown up 6+ times. Every time was just a small amount of clear liquid. She seemed fine yesterday morning and played all day. I took her on a walk and she was fine.

Last night she woke me up around 5AM and was making vomit sounds and put her head down as if she was going to throw up but nothing came out and she was dry heaving. This happened about 4 more times. She woke up this morning full of energy and seems fine once again.

Her poop is completely normal and there are no other signs of sickness. Do you have any ideas on what may be causing this? Is this a reason for alarm?

My sister has a dog that was vomiting quite a bit last week. She took him to the vet and received a shot and has been fine ever since then. Aspen plays with her dog a lot so could it be some kind of virus?

Nothing much to add, but I hope Aspen is ok now and that is the last of it. Sounds like she probably got it from your sister's dog. Especially since Aspen is so young I would probably take her to the vet just to be sure she is ok or at least call the vet and see what they think.

It could be viral. I would give it a day or two but if it persists I'd see the vet. Make sure she is drinking plenty of fluids, eating and pooping.

IMO, a 3 month puppy who has been vomiting repeatedly over a two day period needs to see a vet ASAP.

I wouldn't wait, and would take Aspen to the vet. At least, I would call to see what they recommend.

I would take Aspen to the vet for a quick checkup.  Since she is trying to vomit and nothing is coming up - is it possible that she swallowed a foreign object.  We had a standard poodle that swallowed the cat's little mouse toy, and he kept trying to bring it up.  He finally did on his own just as we were going out the door to the vet!  Really better safe than sorry -especially since it is almost the weekend and then it might mean an emergency vet visit or more $$$.  Good luck.

Boris had a vomiting episode at four months. I didn't wait and brought him to the vet where he had a shot and I fed him chicken broth for a few days and then boiled chicken and sweet potato for a few days after. It was very scary but if it ever happened again I would go straight to the vet. This is a baby who can get dehydrated very quickly as well as not knowing whether it was something he ate or indeed a viral bug.

Both my parents and my doodle will vomit late night or early am, and have done this since pups. I have found that if they eat before bed and eat something right away in the morning this DOESNT happen. My doodle Rooka is almost like clockwork if I don't give her a little treat or something in the AM she will throw up around 10AM and it is just yellow froth, stomach acid. My parents doodle will to the same just in the middle of the night, which has been prevented by giving her a treat before bed. Hopefully this helps Aspen- it has worked for us!
FYI I used to take Rooka in for this when young and it didn't help with pills or chicken and rice. This has been what works for us.

This does not sound like an empty tummy vomit. This sounds like more than that. My boys when they were young did this too and I gave them a small snack late at night which worked.

I agree. This sounds nothing like the bringing-up-bile-due-to-an-empty-tummy issue.

However, it helps if dogs are fed twice a day, morning and dinner time, in which case you would be giving her breakfast in the a.m., not a "little treat". :)

My Guinness will vomit small amounts of bile (sometimes several times early in the morning) if his stomach is empty.  We give him a couple of biscuits at bedtime and most of the time that prevents it.  Once in a while it will still happen.  It is different from typical vomiting because it's only bile, and after he has his morning meal he's fine for the rest of the day.  If Aspen has these episodes only in the early morning and is fine the rest of the day with no more vomiting I wouldn't think it is anything serious.  I would share this with the vet though on your next visit.

Glad to hear it's not serious.
