Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm a divorced Baby Boomer who never had children. My ex came into my life with a 6 1/2 yr old Golden and that was the beginning of my love affair with Goldens. After we lost her we had four more Goldens, the last two of which I got in the divorce.
I lost Abby about 7 years ago when she was 8 and Mahzik was 6.
I lost Mahzik at 13 1/2 at the end of April after 10 months of doing whatever it took to keep her alive while she still had the will to live. I'm now ready for another dog but have decided that I want a mini Goldendoodle and would be happy to adopt a young re-home. I've had no luck on Adopt a Pet or Petfinders. I live in MA and will travel to any of the five New England states and even NY or NJ to pick up a dog who needs a forever home.
Thx

Doodle Rescue Collective has a long waiting list of approved applicants waiting for doodles of all types and sizes in the Northeast part of the country, and even longer for minis and mediums. Minis are relatively rare in rescue, and for each one that comes into the program in any part of the country, we can get as many as 100 applications.

I'd urge you to expand your search parameters by looking for any smaller Poodle mix. It's a myth that mini- goldendoodles have the personalities or temperaments of Golden Retrievers. Some do, and many have the personalities of their Poodle parents and grandparents. And there's really not much difference between labradoodles and goldendoodles in terms of temperament or personality. Since Miniature and Toy Poodles are generally not as calm and easy going as Standard Poodles, you often find the same to be true in mini doodles versus standard doodles. Mini Goldendoodles can be great companions, but they are definitely not smaller, non-shedding versions of Golden Retrievers.

I'd search Petfinder 2-3 times a week minimum, using "Poodle" as the breed. Every available Poodle mix dog in your area will come up, including any doodles.

You should also be aware that all of the same diseases that run in Goldens also run in goldendoodles, including cancer, unfortunately.

All rescues list their dogs on Petfinder or Adopt a Pet. :)

A mini multigen in rescue would be a long shot, indeed.

I misunderstood your original post; I thought you were looking to adopt a homeless dog. I didn't realize you wanted to buy an older puppy or dog from a breeder. It would probably have been clearer if you had posted it that way: "Does anyone know of a breeder with an older mini-goldendoodle for sale?"

People will have to private message you if they do know of any, since breeder referrals and recommendations are not permitted here: http://www.doodlekisses.com/notes/Community_Guidelines

Just as a side note, my labradoodle was in a shelter when I adopted him, and a sweeter, gentler, more lovable, better behaved dog never existed.

I started looking for a doodle a year ago. I had rescued a golden and had him for 10 years and was thinking of going that route again but trying to find a goldendoodle. There is a Last Day Rescue here in Michigan that I perused quite a bit but found nothing. There were a ton of poodle mixes like with a yorkie or shih tzu but nothing goldendoodle. I finally realized I wasn't going to find what I wanted going this route so I went through a breeder. I just think goldendoodles are in such high demand and they are spoken for as soon as they arrive at the shelter or foster home. But maybe a breeder on the east coast could point you in the right direction. Every so often someone from here will post about a doodle needing rehomed. I think I have seen maybe 3 in the year I have been here. Good Luck in your search and hope something comes through for you.

Some of the older puppies for sale may be in need of a good home?

Our mini doodle - I have to say I have never met another dog like her, and if she did land in a rescue she probably wouldn't make it past the foster home.  She's just really unique...but I bet a lot of mini doodle owners feel the same way about theirs.

Best wishes on finding your special pup.  He or she will be lucky to find you too.

Yes, we think our mini is pretty special.

Julie, I have an F1b mini goldendoodle and she is far and above the best puppy that I have ever owned. She is sweet, gentle, friendly and very trainable. I wish that I could own many more just like her. She weighs 20-25 lbs, is easy to pick up and easy to walk. I have the name of a breeder in central New York that has some puppies from a large litter for sale. This breeder meets all of the rigorous testing standards required by Doodle Kisses. While I did not buy Wynnie from her, I would not hesitate to buy one of her puppies now. You could friend me or start a private conversation with me and I could give you the breeders name. I am not sure how the friending process works on this site or how a private conversation starts. Perhaps, another participant, like Karen, could advise us.

Julie has left the site.

I have a mini...30 lbs....so medium.  He is very special and sweet. Hope you find what you are looking for.
