DoodleKisses.com

Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

For many years DoodleKisses was our sole place of communication.  We have over 10,000 members and while we lost a few of our beloved doodles it wasn't an every day occurrence.  I know that many of you are on FB now and a member of Doodle Family.  While I'm not real active there I am still a member on the site.  I see it in my feed and occasionally when I feel I have something of value to add I will do so.  What has been troubling me lately, is the number of sick and dying doodles on the site.  There are only 1714 members.  When you compare the two sites member wise, it just seems off.  Has anyone else noticed this?  I just wonder why?   It is actually a little scary and definitely very sad.

We ask Adina to add it. Easy peasy. She recently amended the guidelines to include the age of the breeding dogs, I think she'd be amenable to this, too.

OK, I'll work on a private message to her and anyone else who wants to send her one is welcome to do so :)

:)

I had not read anything about the ESN and the cancer and other related bone issues.  I knew some said that it could cause the urinary incontinence and that was one of my requirements when we got AnnaBelle was I didn't want ESN.  Good to know.

The problems that ESN causes with the growth plates in the bones are pretty much accepted as gospel at this point.

I love AnnaBelle's breeder and I've never even met or talked to her :)

:o)

Doodle Family is my group on fb.  I do not allow medical advice to be given.  We do share what has worked for us but always with 'call your vet, since   we do not have medical training' .  Countless times I have posted the link to the Health group and many other groups  in DF for my Family members to get great advice.

The doodles that have passed away,  too many over the past 2 months,  we're being treated by Specialists! Their families have done everything humanly possible to give their doodle the best veterinary care possible for as long as their doodle wasn't suffering.  We have been there with their humans from the time they were diagnosed,  doing whatever we could to help ease the pain and heartache  the loss of any and all doodles is tragic, to even suggest that a FB group has anything to do with that is to undermine and disrespect the efforts and love of each family who did everything to help their doodle.

Just because DF is a group on FB,  don't assume Doodle Family group is run by a fool, I am not!! I don't allow breeders to post puppies for sale,  we do promote health insurance,  we give kind and loving support to anyone who needs  it for whatever reason,  meanness is never allowed and we promote the same foods that the Food Group does.

We are a large  group who are pro-rescue  but rescue isn't for every family.  I do not allow those 'cute' pictures of babies crawling on sleeping doodles but we do share pictures and stories of doodles and their humans all the time.  We organize romps that support many different reduces and other great charities.

Wow, I honestly didn't think that I suggested that anyone had anything to do with it or that anyone was a fool.   If I came across that way, my apologies, it was not my intent.   I was just sort of thinking out loud that there were more doodles lost over say the last 6 months than the entire time DK has been in existence.  It seemed odd that with only 1700+ members, so many were being lost.   And, I believe it is safe to say there is no way that I, of all people, would disrespect any family that has lost their doodle.  It was sad, it seemed odd, I just was curious if anyone else noticed.  Sorry to have offended you.

When "what worked for us" includes things that are known to be untrue, ineffective and even sometimes dangerous, that's a problem. Even worse when the person recommending the product is selling it. That may no longer be going on in the group, but I know for a fact that it was going on at one point, and is still going on in many doodle groups on FB.

When a dog is sick and needs an accurate diagnosis, or expensive testing done by a veterinary specialist, and someone in a group recommends a much cheaper alternative, (oils, herbs, lotions, potions, do-it-yourself home testing kits, etc) many people are going to delay getting help for their dogs by trying the cheap ineffective test or cure that supposedly "worked for us". You often hear "no harm in trying it". Well, delaying getting an accurate diagnosis and an effective treatment can make the difference between catching a disease early enough to cure it, or not. That's why it's harmful. Saying "such and such type of testing or treatment is known to be inaccurate" or "such-and-such product has been shown to be ineffective in treating such-and-such disease" and backing that up with facts is not mean, it's information that could save a dog's life.

And if I see one more post about coconut oil I am going to barf. My dog has an upset stomach, give them coconut oil, my dog has fleas, give them coconut oil, my dog has scabs on his stomach, rub coconut oil on it...etc.

LOL to housebreak your puppy, rub coconut oil on him!
