Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Doodle Friends, hoping you can help us out on behalf of Rippley. Sorry it's so long/detailed...
Tuesday was Rip's due Lyme vaccine and he hasn't had any reactions to any vaccine yet, but he seemed a bit tired and that was fine as I chalked it up to the vaccine...
Wednesday he still seemed a bit tired and only ate dinner all day (it's not that unusual for him to skip breakfast lately). Poops were normal, sleeping, drinking well and so I wasn't too concerned...
Thursday he had a play date where he didn't play much at all and then we took him to a park in the PM where he snagged some old chicken bone from someone's picnic left as trash! Aargh. I was able to retrieve some (but apparently not all) from his mouth (foreshadowing here...) :) But by evening my worry meter was full throttle as he refused meals - though he ate treats/drank - and was really tired.
Friday (this morning) we called the vet but he seems more energy, brighter. He ate maybe 1/4 cup kibble/yogurt breakfast. He is drinking and taking treats. Vet made appointment for 11:30 tomorrow in case... Then around 9:30 he pooped out about 2" of a skinny split chicken bone. He seemed more food interested - trolling the kitchen and happy to take a treat but not really his meal. The 1 o'clock poop was a bit mushy with lots of scooting going on (unusual). I'm hoping he won't turn to more mush or diarrhea now.
I can't figure out if it was vaccine related or nauseous/irritable stomach related. And why the mush poo now, when he seems to be acting better?
Thanks for any insights/advice. Best,

Judy, thank you so much. Hugs back to you and adorable Scrabledoodle (what an awesome name!) We did love him, every day, but we were the lucky ones. xo

I just heard today about Rippley's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, sweet boy.

Thanks for the kind sympathy, Amy. We pick up his ashes today, sigh. It is harder than I thought to do this, but I was thinking of spreading them in the loop he used to run with such pure joy in our yard. You know how sometimes when they run, it is like there is not a care in the world...

That is a great idea. We did that with our golden retriever. He also had lymphoma. When we would walk the trail afterward, we felt him with us. My heart breaks for you and your family.

Ohhhh sweet goldens :( what was his name?

Charlie, he passed April 2002.

Oh, Cindy, I missed this post about Rippley passing! I saw the word "palliative" in your other post and then found the sad news here. I'm so sorry for your loss! I loved how you affectionately referred to him as "Rip"- I thought that was such a sweet name and reminded me of Rip Van Winkle. :-)

Many hugs to you!

Thanks for this, Lori. Sweet name for the most incredibly sweet boy. But coincidentally, R.I.P. - weird, right? I think we are grieving through humor lately. Give adorable Winnie a pet for us. Xo

I thought of that with his name, too, but didn't want to sound disrespectful!  :-)  Humor IS so healing, isn't it?

Each day with all of our loved ones (furry and non furry) is such a gift. Being a cancer survivor myself, I am constantly reminded to treasure each and every day. Dogs are good at "living in the moment." People, not so much. I just know that Rip was so thankful for all of the love and care that he got from you!

Cindy, I'm just reading this and I am so very sorry about your sweet Rippley. I am so very sorry. Hugs to you all.

Thanks my J friends :). I have six cousins, all their names begin with 'J' - I appreciate your kind words...
