I took Gavin to the vet in our cottage community because his allergies sparked up big time and I did not want to delay treatment.  It was so good of him to see Gavin despite not being his patient.  Anyhow my vet forwarded the dosage of Vanactyl P from last year so it was pretty much a rubber stamp procedure.  He did however talk me into a fish oil supplement (honestly it did not take much; I was so glad he took Gavin on such short notice I did not mind leaving some extra money behind). It is also Canadian sourced FWIW. So Gavin has been getting 1000mg of EPO daily and 4ml of fish oil.  I have attached a picture for reference.  He has not had any outward negative side effects, but wondering if I wasted money.

In a sense you did waste money, because this product is fairly low in EPA and DHA per dose, and it also contains vitamins that he doesn't need. It won't do any harm, but human fish oil softgels contain a lot more EPA and DHA per dose, and I'm guessing they're a lot cheaper, especially for a dog Gavin's size.

Thanks Karen.  Should he be taking both types of oil daily or is one or the other sufficient?

If he is having no signs of problems I guess I would continue both for the allergy season and the choose on e or the other for maintenance. You could give both again during allergy season. I give
EPO year round and in a few weeks I expect Calla to start scratching. Then I'll give her Allegrea as needed for 2-3 weeks.

Thanks F.

I agree.

We started putting fish oil in his food.  The vet gave us a omega-3 liquid.  It has 2000 mg of fish oil, 360 mg of EPA and 240 mg of DHA. It also has Vitamin E in it.

Thanks Susan for your help.

you're welcome!
