This is not bad at all, relatively speaking. JD tore his pads clean off. All of them, on both front paws. There were bloody circles where the pads had been.
I'd soak and disinfect them, apply the antibiotic ointment, and wrap them.
Surprisingly paw pads seem to heal very quickly. Quincy once had huge blisters on his pads from playing fetch on ashphalt (we only made that mistake once). They were bleeding and sore but healed in just a couple of days. I agree with F, just some antibiotic ointment and keep them covered for a few days and she should be fine.
Jolene, you might be able to put small socks on her paws when she goes outside to help keep the pads clean. I am so sorry she hurt them.
This happens here more often than any other injury. We use a small, woman's sock and a hair scrunchy.
Hope the Birthday Girl heals quickly! What do you think she did that this happened? Just so much playing in the pool and running around this weekend? At least she is in good hands!
Thanks Janet. Most likely a combination of many things; two days in the water, running on the hot pavement and it probably doesn't help that we all have soft feet since I've been grounded with the foot boot/cast since May 1 so we haven't gotten out much? Even my daughter who usually has rawhide feet is complaining! lol Gotta tell ya though, I'm loving the calm cuddliness (this is so unlike her!) Thanks again Ü
