Ranger has been having loose stools for past 3 days.  Not sure what triggered it. It started out of the blue, no change in diet.
We are giving him bland diet rice, boiled chicken, yogurt with Pumpkin.
Yesterday, he got better with normal stool in the morning.  By evening we thought he was back to normal and gave him regular Puppy food, Diamond Naturals Lamb and rice. By late evening, he started having loose stools every 2 hours. Today we put him back on bland diet. Looks like he is hungry and we are feeling really bad for him.
Vet asked us to keep him on bland diet and to drop of Stool Sample tomorrow.
Last time he had similar episode was in last week of August but when we gave him boiled rice with yogurt, he recovered quickly.  I am sure it was due to change in diet last time.  This time I am not sure.
Any input is appreciated.

I will talk to vet about an X-ray.

Thanks Karen

The bland diet is highly digestible, so that would account for the smaller volume.  I think it's fine to wait one more day to see what happens.  It sounds like his stool is a little soft, but not frequent or diarrhea, so waiting one more day should be okay IMO.

Yeah no diarrhea or frequent stools.

I will wait for one more day and see instead of worrying.

Thanks

Update:

Ranger has been doing well for past two days.  I started giving him his regular food as well as his bland food.

At this point my guess is he ate something he is not supposed to and it took about 6 days for him to get back to normal.

His stools are normal but small.  Maybe he is contipated.

I'm certain he isn't constipated. I'd keep an eye on it and if the stool isn't back to normal in a few days of getting his regular food, I'd still have an X-ray done.

Thanks Karen.  I would definitely keep an eye on it and as you suggested will have an X-ray done if he doesn't get back to normal.

My guy who eats mostly home cooked food has pretty small poops too.  Once you increase the amount of "regular food" you should see an increase in stool volume.  If not, as Karen said, I would be concerned and talk to the vet.

Yeah Jane.  He doesn't seem to be uncomfortable or anything.  He is happy and active.  So I am not concerned.  As you said I will wait and see once he gets back to his normal diet.

Thanks

Update

Ranger is back to normal completely.  His stools are normal. His bland diet helped him a lot.

I did give him Pro-biotic.

As usual he is happy and active.

Thanks Ginny, Karen and Jane for all the advise.

Glad to hear it, thanks for letting us know!
