Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Just learned that June 20/21 is the pick-up weekend.
Does anyone know what the parents are like - or have a Hayley Belle/Casey pup and can describe their temperament? What # pick were you and what was it like the first two months?
Thank you! I'm so excited to welcome him/her into our home.

Hi Jen,
We got our playpen and crate from Amazon. The Richell playpen is 3-in-1 convertible elite pet gate, we got the 6 panel. Its 31inches tall and Teddy is not able to jump out of it even now when he is 7 months old. We also got the floor tray with it. We at times leave Teddy inside the playpen when we have to be out of the house for couple of hours and he is absolutely fine in it and usually ends up sleeping.
Hope that helps.

Hi Jen,
Many of Kong's products are great but I recommend getting a couple different types of toys to start with (rope, ball, stuffed, interactive, chews) and determining what your puppy's play style is before adding more toys. Some items that we've enjoyed are the Kong rope toy, the original Kong feeder (although it only gets her attention when she's starving, it's versatile in that it can be stuffed with anything tasty - and most food-motivated dogs love it), snuggle puppy, Honest Kitchen cod chews, and the Himalayan Chew. Our favorite high-value treats for training include PureBites chicken treats, peanut butter, and pieces of poached chicken, steak, and Primal raw frozen food. They are mainstays for our training sessions.
Also, we bought a rather expensive bed for her that so far hasn't proven necessary and we wish we'd held off on that purpose. Maybe she'll use it later but so far is much more inclined to cuddle up to wherever we are or find a random spot on the rug - haha!
Awesome! Thanks Anita!
That's really helpful about the bed. That was one item that we were definitely deliberating one. Curious, what size crate did you get? Do you still use it? I was reading a lot of reviews that said the puppies jump out of the exercise pen quickly. What do you do when you leave the house? Can Zoe just linger on her own now or do you use the crate?
Thanks again, I really appreciate it!
Best,
Jen
Hi Jen,
We still use the crate for Zoe, now 9 months. We left the house without properly securing the crate and she had a blast playing with toilet paper, pens, and clothing. The damage was minimal and she never swallows anything that might be a concern for us. However, it is best for training to keep your puppy in the crate unless you can keep an eye on him/her and respond with a correction when they start getting nosy and spunky. ;)
We're thinking of adding a baby gate to allow for increasing freedom but since we do daycare or dog walking M-F, the crate is sufficient for now. I don't think we'll completely let her roam until she stops nosing the recycling and attempting to steal clothes even when we are* home. It might be a while, but it's ok since the crate really gives us peace of mind for up to 5-6 hours at a time.
We had her in the crate at night (in our room). Tethering would be fine too.
