I put down a deposit on a litter, and they were born about 5 days ago.  They don't have much fur, which I guess is normal.  It looks like the litter has 1 cream and 6 apricot or reds. (I want a medium to dark color.)  I know coat colors change often between puppy and adult, but do the coat colors change much between when they are born and when they go home (at about 9-11 weeks)?

Mine stayed very similar in color during that time frame. Their ears got a little darker and a white spot they both had on the tops of their heads spread out more.
But no huge change

Here is a pic of Bowie at 1 week (then named Rickey) and from last week at 10 weeks 1 day.  He stayed the same color I think!

Ned didn't fade until he was much older and even then the red ears faded into apricot.  His tail and eyelashes are still dark. The first picture is a breeder picture.  The second is a 3 month old picture - just the same color.

Wow!  Thanks so very much for your reassurance!  I sure look forward to seeing how they grow up, and hope I'll be getting one.  Thank you for taking the time to respond and to even post pictures!

Charlie was very chocolate and lightened up around 1.5 yrs.  Beau is a parti ALD and he has stayed true to color.  Beau has stayed pretty much the same chocolate and white parti.  The chocolate has not lightened up.  I have heard that in order to get a true red, they need to be very dark at birth. Most lighten up over time to Apricot. Same with a dark chocolate - they look very dark brown almost black.  But I have not personally had any experience with reds.

Thank you so much, Linda.  You've given me so much encouragement!  I'm really hoping I'll get one out of this litter that's going home maybe mid-April.

Thank you all!
