I had a shepherd/lab cross puppy over 30 years ago named Kara! She had the blackest nose and then all of a sudden most of it turned pink! I asked her vet about it and he couldn't tell me much but told me that she would not get her black nose back (and she didn't!) Since then, I have read everything about the nose (dishes etc etc.) Myla has had a stainless steel dish since we got her but every winter, her nose is lighter - not pink, but definitely not black. As soon as spring arrives, it turns totally black again, so, my research shows it's "winter nose". She is definitely a "snow dog" (we live in Canada) and loves digging in the snow and I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but it is definitely lighter during the winter months. I absolutely love the pure black nose and so look forward to spring for my Myla!
