So you may know that we adopted a dog from a nearby couple who felt he was too exuberant for them.  He was originally named Sinatra because he had blue puppy eyes (they're yellow and very striking now) and crooned!  (thank goodness no more). Then his name became Frankie, which is the name he had when we got him.

We did not want to change it too much since he answers to that name.  We decided to try "Franc", from Father of the Bride.  Ehh-not crazy about that , but the "F" sound worked.  It was then suggested by my sister and BIL in Texas (lol) that the name "Frankie" is frumpy.  They suggested "Fritz,  Frazier, or Franz". for the "FR" sound.

I like "Fitz".  Is he young enough to make the switch?

Anyone care to weigh in?

I like all the names.  And to add another, what about Hank?  :)  Rhymes with Frank...  I end up saying Belly or Belle for Eloise half the time (Ellie Belly) and I agree he should be fine adjusting to whatever name you decide on.  And isn't it nice how the second one helps out tire out the first?!  I'm glad to hear they're having fun and playing together - so sweet!

If the new name begins with a consonant, has a short /a/ sound, and ends with an /ee/ sound, it will be close enough to his original name that he might not notice too much. Personally, I really like Frankie because it is cute, friendly and not common, and suits his picture.  However it is sometimes important to us to put our own 'stamp' on our pets in this new chapter of their lives with a  name we choose.

I have a funny story about names.  Years ago, there was a stray dog in our neighborhood. A big, beautiful, black boy that we now think was a labradoodle. Anyway - a number of people in the neighborhood tried to adopt him, but he was a roamer and only stayed for a few days. Since no one knew who he was or where he came from, everyone had a different name for him. He ended up getting hit by a car and had a broken hip. My friend called me and told us that he had been hit. We went and got him, took him to the vet and ultimately to our state vet hospital for surgery. We decided that since we had paid major $$$ for him, that he was now ours, so we made sure that he wasn't allowed to roam any more. After he recovered from surgery, when my husband walked him, they would pass by people that had once tried to adopt him. They would come out to say HI to Taz, Tico, Blackie, Hoodenie, and Tramp. (All the same dog!)  He responded to all of the various names. We settled on Tramp because that just seemed to fit him and his previous lifestyle. He was a super intelligent young man who was the joy in our lives for over 10 years. RIP Tramp.

What a sweet story. He was well loved.

Yes he was!

What a wonderful story. Just like in the Disney story, Phoebe was the Lady and your roaming boy was her Tramp.

Yes, Phoebe loved him dearly and mourned him terribly when he died. To this day, I think she still misses him and he has been gone now for 4 years.  However, she now has 2 doodles that she attempts to keep in line. They aren't very cooperative, but bless her, even in her old age - she tries!

Awww...I love that story!

Best story ever!  So happy that Tramp finally had a place to call "home"!!!!

What a very sweet story!  Tramp and his lady!

I tend to call him Frankie, btw.  By the time I stop and think what name to use, it's easier to just call Frankie....lol...

Today is two weeks, and it is considerably calmer.  As suggested, I make them go outside to wrestle.  Frankie is an instigator, but backs off when Quincy gets assertive.  Quincy will also take toys or chews and Frankie accepts it as his fate.  I still think Frankie thinks he went to dog heaven - for sure since he sleeps in our bed over my legs.  Not crazy about that.  the other night I turned and flipped him off the bed...he was fine, but puzzled.

Lori, Frankie is a lucky guy. As is Quincy to get a brother - one that is already potty trained and through the puppy chewing stage! We have always had more than one dog at a time. They really keep each other company and have so much fun playing, wrestling, and romping together. As evidenced by my story about Tramp - I think their name can be changed at any time and they will quickly adapt. I'm sure these guys will give y'all MANY hours of fun and joy
