Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello. I'm getting an f1b goldendoodle at the end of the month. Fur looks thick/wavy at this point. I was wondering....are activet/les poochs the same? Which brush should I get for a standard sized f1b likely to have thicker wavy or curlier hair? Also should I get another brush to supplement? Thx

I have a curly f1b with a thick coat. I use a Chris Christensen brush for every day brushing and the Les pooch mat zapper for getting out those darn mats that go with having a non shedding dog. Which reminds me I felt a couple on her last night that I need to zap out.

Yes, LesPoochs and Activet are the same product.  I used the single green when Ned was a puppy. I now use the green or purple or red mat zapper depending upon how matted he is.  I also always use a comb.

The Activet/Les Pooches brushes may be a bit much for a puppy. Some pups need eased into the idea of being brushed so you may need a less aggressive brush at first for the puppy coat. Maybe a regular slicker brush or pin brush. And like Nancy said a good steel comb is essential for catching tangles before they become mats.

I use a slicker or Chris Christensen pin brush and a comb on Tara.

I use the comb for a lot of things. In addition to tangles, it is good for getting out leaves and other yard debris she bring in on her coat, I also have a small one for her face. I also keep one of those small flea/tick combs in my backpack in case she picks up a hitchhiker on the trail. One of the pet stores I go to sells the little plastic ones for about 50 cents each. I have a few of them.

I just learned that LesPoochs and Activet are not the same product.

Here is what I found out:

"The Les Poochs brushes were unavailable for a long time, and many people think the Activet brush is the same product. Their brushes do have a similar design, however they are from different companies. Activet is the company that previously manufactured the brushes for Les Poochs when the brushes were made in Germany. Les Poochs stopped using that manufacturer because of quality control issues that could not be resolved. So during the time between 2013 and 2015, Les Poochs decided to reorganize and set up manufacturing here in the USA. It took quite a while to accomplish that because they were starting from scratch needing new equipment, new molds, and of course funding. In the meantime, Activet was quick to start manufacturing their own brushes with a similar design, and at one point even advertised them as the new Les Poochs brush, so legal issues were involved. Les Poochs finally resumed production of their original brush in July 2015 with improvements made to the seam welding and a slight addition to the handle making it more ergonomic. Currently, only the most popular varieties are in production (Green, Purple and Mat Zapper)."

Thanks for the replies!
Ok I think I will hold out on a Les Poochs based on suggestion till the adult coat comes in. Would I get a regular still comb or one with rotating teeth? Also should I do a pin, slicker or t-brush? Thanks!

It really depends upon your dogs coat.  If it has a poodle-thick coat, I would use the LesPoochs slicker.  You will need a comb also.  I have two kinds - one is the traditional steel comb and the other is called The Untangler and has rotating tines.

I used a comb with rotating teeth to ease Tara into grooming. She is was not a calm puppy when it came to grooming and was not comfortable with a regular comb!  Now I use the steel comb with stationary teeth and she is fine with it.
