Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all,
My name is Lindsey and we just picked up "Jake," our Goldendoodle, from the breeder two weeks ago this coming Friday. He will be 11 weeks old Friday April 26.
He is an F1B and his mom was a Goldendoodle and his dad was a standard poodle.
I just wanted to introduce us and ask what you experts thought Jake will look like when he gets older.
The breeder said that after he looses his puppy coat his adult coat will come in much curlier and will likely not shed.
I understand this is no guarantee, but I was curious what you all thought based on his pics?

Jake is a cutie. I will be following your photos as he matures. I think he is going to be a very handsome boy!
He's adorable....congratulations. It's so hard to guess at what he'll look like, but I do think he'll have more of the soft fleece type of coat.
Does that coat type usually shed?
He is shedding a bit now, but the breeder says it is a coat change and his adult coat will curl up and me low to no shedding, and his coat does seems to be changing a bit.
Most often when they shed as puppies, they shed as adults also. However, this is not a hard and fast rule so you can hope that Jake follows the shed to no- or little- shedding pattern. :-}
I thought they all shed their puppy coat regardless of whether they shed as adults.
They do all lose their puppy coats, but that doesn't mean that they are all true shedders. Typically, it's somewhere between 8 and 10 months (or thereabouts) when the adult coat grows in and they lose their puppy coat. That's the time when a lot of matting happens. I think Nancy meant that if a puppy sheds when young, then it's likely that they will shed as an adult. Jake is very cute!
I do not have goldendoodles, but do have two ALD (multigen labradoodles). Neither of mine shed as puppies and at about 10 months their adult coat started coming in. During the coat change on a non-shedding dog, the puppy coat must be brushed out and must be brushed daily if you do not want the coat to mat. It will not shed out. Many owners of non shedding doodles just cut the coat short through the coat change time in order to deal with it. I would think that if your puppy is shedding now it will probably shed as an adult possibly just lightly as you mentioned. There are pros and cons to shedding in my opinion. I think the coat care on a shedding doodles is actually easier than one that does not shed and instead of spending lots of time on coat care, you spend lots of time on house cleanup of hair. LOL
Jake is absolutely doodlelicious! He's so extremely cute! Whatever he turns out, he is going to be a handsome eye catcher...enjoy enjoy enjoy! Oh yeah, and take LOTS of pictures.
Jake is adorable! My multigen doesn't shed but I believe that is because she is 64% poodle. I was told by breeder she wouldn't shed and she was right.
She does have a lot of curl but very soft like silk kind of coat.
Jake looks like the same coloring of apricot color? So handsome!!!!
Congrats on your new puppy.
