Finally!  Going to get a discussion started with good (and safe) dog treats!

As a reminder, any treats made from a company listed in our Recommended Foods list will work, so I am not going to list them here. Visit this link for those brands:  http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/recomme...

Yes, it makes a big difference. The danger in rawhide is that it's not digestible so it can cause blockages. In powdered form, you don't have that concern. So I'd say they're fine. Whew!

From the link you provided:

"Rawhide? I thought that was bad for dogs!” Yes, there are many rawhide products available that you would not want to sell. However, Treat Planet uses powdered rawhide in their products, not the rawhide that we’ve all be reading about! Treat Planet grinds their rawhide to a fine texture for easy digestibility."

Woohoo! Thanks for your help :)

Today at Cabela's I ran across Indigo Smokehouse Strips. On the front is says "100% USA Grown Pork" and Made in the USA. The website on the back is www.petsafe.net  I couldn't find them on the recommended list, so I didn't buy them. But I was curious enough to take a picture and wonder if it was a good treat.

Thanks! Stacy

I don't know...a treat made by a company that mainly sells remote control devices for training (the parent company is Radio Systems Corp.) and plastic pet equipment makes me nervous, lol. The second ingredient in them is sugar, which dogs could certainly do without, and there are lots of jerky type treats out there that are nothing but meat. They're probably okay, but I'd personally take a pass on these.

I knew that I knew the name petsafe from somewhere, but I didn't clue in to what they made. They were not inexpensive treats either, $10 for 6 oz. I think I can do better with something else. I just didn't want to miss out on something fabulous!

Thanks, Karen. You're always a great resource.

Attended the big Pet Expo in southern California yesterday and in one of our goodie bags we got a variety treats from Smartbones. They look like rawhides but have the circle with the line thru it in big words NO RAWHIDE! Curious if I can keep or should I toss??

Toss them. The ingredients are horrible, and include corn as the number one ingredient, with artificial coloring, preservatives and flavorings, and tons of sugar. Plus, the packaging and the website give no mention of sourcing, which usually means they're made in China and possibly sourced there as well.

Thanks heading for the trash now! My friend was baffled why I turned so much free stuff down as we walked thru the booths, told her only the best for my girls! Lol. I stocked up on the Orijen and Acana sample packs @ $2 a bag so my day was complete! They scored on a bully stick but all the other treats I gave to my friend (lots of milkbones). Other freebies were zignatures and lotus that I'll keep as a treat.

How about Virbac C.E.T. VeggieDent Tartar Control Dog Chews?

Our dogs love these & they have made a big difference in the cleanliness of their teeth.

They're better than the Smartbones, but still not great. They do contain corn and sugars.

The best dental chews are made by Paragon, and include Whimzees as well as various "bones", toothbrush shaped treats, etc. All of the ingredients are natural, and they're made in Holland. Here's a link : http://www.whimzees.com/products/

We love Whimzees! We are sad we had to put them up while Beckett is on his elimination diet. :(

We have been using Happy Howies meat rolls for our training.  It was recommended by our local pet store and our trainer.  Molly loves it... just curious if you have heard anything about it...   http://www.happyhowies.com
