Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Winnie is getting a brother! He's a "semi rescue"- a family that loved him, but didn't have the time or resources to take care of him properly. He is 2.5 years old and was with his first family for a little over 2 years before they decided that with having a toddler and a baby on the way, the dog had to go. The second family took him in out of the goodness of their hearts without really "thinking it through." They are strapped financially already, and now THEY have an unexpected baby coming as well. He has been with them for 3 months. He is a happy boy, but his coat is in bad shape from complete lack of grooming. Poor guy! We are going to be his LAST family!! We are childless and my eggs have long dried up. :-)
We met him on Monday and he is an absolute Love Bug. Winnie and him get along beautifully, too. Karen (Karen and Jackdoodle) has been helping me to take the proper steps (full vet records, researching the family, timing of the grooming, etc.) to help make it a safe transition into our home. Thank you SO MUCH!
His name is Bauer. It is an "OK" name, but not one that I would ever choose for a dog. So my question is this- for those of you that have taken in a "re homed" dog, did you keep the name or change it? And, how did you come to that decision?
Here is a pic of the big (70lbs!) love. After stop at the groomers, we bring him home on Friday- I can hardly wait!! :-)

OK, from these top 4... 1) Henry 2) Bob 3) Indy 4) Finley....... Vote, please!! :-)
I like "Bob". In fact, Bob is one of the names my DD calls Jack, and don't ask me why, lol.
I think Bob would be the easiest transition, since it sounds similar. And it is a happy go lucky name.
I like Bob, but if I get a male dog, his name will probably be Finley.
I like Bob or Finley.
Finley is really common. Plus, I think there might be some confusion between "Win" and "Fin" with Lori's two. "Winnie" and "Finley" may sound too much alike.
He is so sweet. Makes me mad when people don't think about the lifelong commitment they should be making to a puppy. I hope you and "Bauer" have a long, happy life together. I don't think that changing his name would be a problem, after all, he has had to adjust to many changes already and seems to be very resilient.
What about Mickey?? A friend suggested it as a play on Micky and Minnie (Winnie)....
Well then I still vote Dexter, there is a Dexter character in Winnie the Pooh, he is an owl. Yeah, I am stuck on Dexter. But Mickey would be fun. They do go nice together.
I still like Bob. Bobdoodle.
Winnie Cooper and Kevin Arnold starred together in "The Wonder Years." Since you already have a Winnie, what about naming your new guy Kevin -- or Cooper? From your list of four, thought, I'd choose Bob.
My husband's name is Kevin. :-)
What about Pete???
I'm sticking with Bob. In fact, I might call him Bob even if you don't. LOL
