I have a 14 week old mini ALD. I just got a dremel to trim her nails. The dremel instructions say to keep hair away from the dremel. Its hard to even find her nails in her foot fur. They suggest for longer haired dogs to use a sock, and I assume to have the nails stick out of the sock. I'm certainly willing to try this, but what kind of sock? I only wear thick socks, and the only thing that makes sense is a thin sock that doesn't run. Should I try a child's cotton thin sock? A pair of pantyhose?

Thank you for your suggestion, Joan! I'll try it out and report back.
I bought 'trouser socks', and they were much too dense to get Echo's nails through. Even a Kleenex (R) worked better. I'll try something much looser like loose netting or cheesecloth and see if that works better. I definitely need to keep the dog fur away from her nails or the fur gets stuck in the Dremel. I'll report back; I will need to go to a fabric store.
Trouser socks would be too thick. I was thinking knee high sheer stockings .. the thin ones (like sheer panty hose material)
I tried my pantyhose, but, again, the base of Echo's nails were too large to fit in the holes. I did better with a bag I got years ago to wash delicates in the washing machine; it has holes about 1/2 cm wide. But its difficult anyways: Echo certainly doesn't like her nails trimmed. I may bring her in to a groomer for a nail trim. Thank you for your ideas!
I bought the dremmel made for doing dog nails and neither I nor my doodles like it. It was way too noisy and rough. I have the Pedi Paws and I use it and they don't mind it at all. I have though started clipping the nails and just using the pedipaws to smooth out the tips. I find with it I can just hold the hair back with my hands.
