Has anyone had a laproscopic spay done on their pup to just remove the ovaries? Was it an easier recovery for your dog? Were there any side effects? Thanks!

I am interested in this discussion.  I had not heard about this option and my baby is 5 months.  If anyone knows about it, I'd love to hear!

I've never heard of laparoscopic spaying- interesting!

Winnie had her "open" spay surgery done via a laser. The first incision is done with a laser, and then they do a laser treatment to the incision after it is closed to aid in healing. I would have that done again in a heartbeat! I literally had to search to find the incision- it was only about 1-1.5 inches long, and the edges came together so nicely that you could barely see it. She never acted like she was in pain, and never bothered the incision. No cone was needed! Of course I was still supposed to keep her from jumping up and running for 2 weeks, which was next to impossible since she felt so well!

Cinni had a bad experience when she went in for her lap spay. During the procedure, the vet noticed a large amount of blood pooling. He had to make a large incision (about 5 inches) to go in and find out the cause. He found out that the camera had nicked the spleen when he was inserting it. He sutured the spleen and she ended up having to remain quiet for 14 days instead of only several days had it been a normal lap spay. I selected this vet because he was experienced in doing lap spays. Luckily Cinni made a full recovery, but had to go through unnecessary pain. She wore a tshirt to cover her incision which worked better than a cone.
