Hi
I'm new and my 9 year old golden doodle was just diagnosed with IMT and the vet is giving us no hope. My heart is broken.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Patti.

From what I understand, immune-mediated thrombocytopenia can often be treated with immunosuppressant drugs. Did your vet discuss that with you at all?

Misty is on antibiotics and prednisone and the vet had me go back 3 days later and blood count was the same. I thought it took a little longer. Misty is eating better since on meds but she is still under the weather. I have to go back Thursday to get blood checked again. I'm worried that she may not respond to meds

I know this is very frightening, but it does take time for the meds to kick in. And sometimes, you need other immunosuppressants like cyclosporine. My guy has two immune mediated diseases, not as serious as IMT, but I am a big believer in veterinary specialists for serious or chronic health conditions. They have a lot more experience and knowledge of newer treatments than GP vets. Here is a link to the Academy of Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialists where you can find an IMS near you. http://vetspecialists.com/

I'm newly divorced single mom who actually had to fight in court to keep Misty ,so funds are not the greatest right now but I will do all and everything I can. I will look into it

Sometimes the specialists aren't as expensive as you think; plus they cut to the chase and get down to what is needed.  I am so sorry you and your doodle are going through this.  Some specialists offer credit through wellness credit cards which allows you to take a bit longer to pay rather than up front.

I agree with the care credit. I think most vets have something like that available if you don't have insurance on Misty.

So sorry to hear this news. I hope Misty responds well to the treatment and is feeling better soon.

Patti - I am sorry your doodle is sick.  I had a standard poodle that IMHA, so I know somewhat of what you are going through.  I so hope your sweet girl responds to the meds.  Keep us posted.

I read that there were others meds that could be tried if some are not successful. I'm so glad I found Doodlekisses.

I am hoping and praying your sweet girl responds to treatment.  You might check out Go Fund Me for Pet health - if treatment is available and you are not in a position to pay, it is possible to get help and then at some time in the future you could probably pay it forward. Hang in there.

I have thought about go fund me ,,I will see what Dr says tomorrow. the meds make her urinate a lot and she has had accidents and she seems so upset about it. My son is so upset.

That's the prednisone. There are other immunosuppressant drugs that don't have those side effects.
