just curious: What does your puppy do at home (when you ARE home?)

Just wondering....other than training times and play/cuddle time...when you are at home doing your own household responsibilities (cooking, cleaning, laundry ETC!)...what does your dood do?? Graycie just follows me around everywhere and doesen't seem to be able to just chill out and relax alone.  While we are at work, she takes her scheduled naps because we aren't home distracting her.  When we are around she just wants to be around us and when we go out she thinks she's coming with!! (It kills me and I feel so guilty!!)

I'd love to hear if this is typical and how to encourage more independence!  LOL

BTW, she's 5.5 months old.  Thank you!!!

She either followed me around, played with her numerous toys or took naps. I taught her "place" to where she would just chill in her place for 20 minutes or so while did things around the house.

Watson was definitely my shadow around that age but even now that he's 1, he usually likes to be at least in the same room even if he is just chilling out or playing with his own toy

It took awhile for him to start entertaining himself, maybe at 7 months or so?

As puppies, mine both followed me around like shadows.  They still do and they are almost 6 and 4! When we are at home, they are generally either in my husband's office, or in mine and sometime take turns sleeping in both!  I think most dogs want to be with the pack. I would be thankful - general the puppies that want to follow and be with you all the time are easy to train and look to you for guidance. A good thing.

Thanks everyone for the insight! It is adorable that she follows me all over...just glad to hear it's typical and that I'm not doing anything to spoil her. Love her to pieces, our 1st pup!

Chappie is not almost 8 months old and he goes from room to room with me, but sleeps while I am in office on computer, bedroom making bed, etc.   He has always slept with us, but now he can jump off and on the bed, and much of the night he sleeps on the tile floor .   In the morning he is on our bed, but not sure how much he is there during the night.   (He is a mini, 20 pounds).    When we leave the house he goes in the crate, thought we are starting to think that will not be necessary much longer.   I totally trust him to have free run of the house.    Hope this helps.  Dee
