Tully is a 5 month old medium, chocolate ALD. Last night I made a fabulous standing rib roast (beef). I have 4 bones left with a bit of meat on them. Can I safely give him one to gnaw on? I know as a baby he could only have raw bones, but what about now?

I let my doodles have the big, beef bones from my rib roast..and, they loved them...just ate the meat off, and left the bone intact.....I asked my Vet if this was O.K., and he said it was fine....
Hi There,
Thanks so much for your responses. After I sent the query out, I decided NOT to give Tully the bones because I thought if I'm not certain about it, I shoudn't do it. Thank you for finding the answers for me.
Yeah, I feed the raw ones to Tully and he loves them. I buy the organic marrow bones in the pet food frozen section; I've also bought (at the suggestion of my breeder, Patty Barnes) raw chicken backs and necks. Thanks again!
Very interesting discussion. I have given Bumble ( 4 1/2 months) raw beef marrow bones. I was just jotting a note to get her some raw chicken back and neck bones from the butcher. But then -- what about the salmonella concern with chicken nowadays? Is it a danger to dogs? Even if not, since I have two young children, I'm not sure I need raw chicken bones about our floor. Hmmmm.
That's a good question! I actually just thought the same thing because we've just had our first grandchild and have another due in the early spring. I'm kind of obsessive about cleaning (my kids would say psychotic!), but once the babies start crawling, I may have to rethink. My vet also suggested the marrow bones and the raw chicken.
