Looking to get him off purina pro plan and onto something much much better! Just have a couple of questions about food brands!

What made you choose the brand you use!
I've gone over the list of good brands multiple times and boy is it kind of overwhelming.

Yeti has had a couple tummy issues the last month. My vet mentioned possibly a limited ingredient food.
Would it be harmful to have yeti on a limited ingredient diet if the vets later realize that he doesn't really have a sensitive stomach and that his upset stomach was caused by something else.

Yeti is 4 months old and is currently 20ish pounds. He is eating a chicken and rice formula, however I don't think he would be overly picky. We have a pet co here and also a local pet store. If I can't find a decent brand I'm totally willing to order online!

First, I am sure Karen can give you the best answer regarding food. My opinion is that there is not an issue with using a limited ingredient food for a puppy whether the puppy has stomach issues or not - so long as the food is nutritionally complete. Any of the All Life Stages foods on the recommended list should be fine. I think I have seen the Wellness Simple and the Nature's Variety Instinct limited ingredient lines mentioned as good foods.

Personally, I put my dog, Addie, on Fromm 4 Star Duck and Sweet Potato when I switched her food from Orijin Puppy. Although she had been fine on Orijin Puppy, she seemed to have some stomach issues on the Orijin Adult. So I switched to the limited protein source of the Fromm series. Luckily, as she has grown older, she does not appear to have a particularly sensitive stomach, unless she gets a lot of chicken. So I actually keep away from chicken when I buy her food. I have been able to switch around within the Fromm 4 Star line easily. Because duck is a bit fatty, I now use the pork and the fish formulas.

I previously has a dog with IBS, as well as some other health and psychological issues. The food I used then that seemed to keep the IBS under control was the Natural Balance LID series, in particular the Potato and Duck. That was before the brand was bought out by Del Monte , I believe. I don't think it is recommended anymore.

As I just mentioned in your other discussion, I would not switch foods right now. Wait til his digestive system is back to normal for a couple of weeks.

It would not be at all harmful to use a limited ingredient formula even if his digestive issues are not related to his food.

Wellness Simple Solutions would be a good choice.

Thank you both so so so so so so much! Yeti and I are both unbelievably thankful for DK and for everyone on here :)

We switched our Lambeau from Purina Pro Plan Chicken and Rice to Fromm's Puppy right around 6 months of age. We wanted to do it sooner, but much like you, he had some tummy trouble the first few months. We picked Fromm's for the food variety. We just moved over to Fromm's Chicken al la Veg about 6 weeks ago and had just started a bag of Fromm's Pork and Applesauce, but Beau had another stomach issue last weekend. It has been boiled chicken and pumpkin this week and we are slowly adding in the kibble as of yesterday. We may switch to their Gold plan, which is grain free, just to see if that helps.
