Best places for a swim in the Bay Area?
Hi everyone,
I want to take Nickie for a swim while summer is here. Are there any places (lakes, gentle rivers, indoor pools preferably) in the Bay Area that would be good to take her?

If you're up for a drive, the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe is amazing. Our guys loved Chimney Beach.
We used to take a week in Mammoth Lakes every few years bc it's so dog friendly. Not sure if horseshoe lake is back, but the drought pretty much dried it up.
A little south of Mammoth is Convict Lake. One of our favorite places in all of California! There's a great 3 mile trail around the lake. Most people either walk or rent a boat and go towards the back side of the lake to swim from the shore there.
Beyond that, there's always Carmel and the beach at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay. You don't need to be a guest or a patron, just tell the person at the gate you're there to go to the beach and they'll direct you to parking and the access points. Try to time your visit with low tide.

My little Jackapoo loves to swim and you can't keep him out of the water. What I have done with all my dogs is give them swimming lessons at a therapy pool for animals. The veterinary hospital where we live has an attached facility for therapy, boarding, and grooming. It has a swimming pool as part of the therapy. A physical therapist for animals is in charge of the facility and she gives swimming lessons when she is not doing therapy. The first lesson consists of teaching them how to use the stairs to enter and exit the pool. You can tell then if they are going to be swimmers.
You might check it out to see if there is a similar physical therapy center in your area. After they have been certified as swimmers, you can schedule a self-swim. We have even had swim parties at the therapy pool. My dogs love it.
