Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi! My husband and I and our 5 kids are excited to welcome an F1B mini english goldendoodle into our home next month. (Gender unknown. We are pick 8 of 10.)  Our biggest roadblock to pet ownership has been our 12 year old's allergies, so we are hoping and praying and crossing fingers that this will be the right pet for us! This site has been so helpful. I love all the puppy, food, grooming, misc info I am reading in the different groups.

Anyway, I would LOVE to hear your FAVORITE ASPECT OF YOUR DOODLE? (Since a main objective of sites like this is to get support and suggestions for problems or concerns, it can admittedly get a little overwhelming reading about mainly the problems, ha ha.  But I know the blessings are out there too - so I would love you to share those!)

Also, I would love to hear any other favorites you want to share! Favorite tips, favorite toys, favorite activities, favorite treats, favorite crate training tips, etc.  (I know a lot of this info is available on the site already.  It is such a great resource.)

I look forward to continuing to gain knowledge and help from my Doodle Kisses buddies.  Hope you and your dogs are all having a great day!

Bella is two and a half years, is thirty pounds and is a mini goldendoodle. She is the smartest dog I have ever seen. She listens to everything we say, and watches everything we do. She is always trying to figure things out and does! Every morning she waits until I have my coffe and am dressed and she is waiting at the front door to run down and gets the newspaper. Her intelligence puts a burden on you to teach her things. She knows the names of her toys and she has learned to spell W A L K because when I say to my wife "Do you want to go for a walk?" Bella starts dancing and jumping up and down. So, I started to just spell it. It didn't take her long to learn how to spell. Now I can just say, "Do you want to go for a W?" and Bella swings into action.

She could not be more sweet and loving, as well as smart. She does have a lot of energy and it is fortunate that we have a large fenced in back yard so we can toss the ball and she can chase squirrels, which she never catches. You'll love your doodle.

Bella is so smart!  Her video is darling - thanks for sharing.  It is helpful to see her size too. Our breeder predicts our dog to be 20-30 lb range.  This also makes me glad for our backyard too!  Thanks so much for answering my question.

Best decision ever. I told myself no more dogs after we lost our 13 year old Golden Retriever. But, I just couldn't resist the adorable golden doodle. Rory is sweet, smart and doesn't shed. He's a multigen,he weighs 29lbs and is @16 inches tall. I'm training him to be a therapy dog.

That is the cutest picture! Thanks for sharing your very positive comment.  Makes me excited!

I have 2 goldendoodles. Bodie is 5 1/2  years & Whidbey is 2 1/2 yrs.  I've had many golden retrievers & labs in my family throughout the years.  My favorite parts are that they have the sweet golden retriever personality, they are easy to train because they are so smart & they don't shed!

Yay! All qualities I am hoping for in our new dog.  Thanks so much for sharing. Your golden doodles are adorable.

Congrats on your new baby!  I too have terrible allergies and two F1B mini goldendoodles - I have 0 allergy issues with them, life is good!  My favorite aspect of both very different girls is how sweet and loving they are. They want to be touched, both will sit beside my husband or I and paw at us until we rub their bellies, scratch their ears...and when we stop, the paw comes back over as if to say, "no don't stop, keep going".

The puppy stage with both was quite trying - as both were like little piranhas, those teeth are lethal!!  Keep many chew toys around, we used ones that could be wet and frozen, and they loved them!  Also, crating  was a savior, it helped greatly with training.  We also purchased from amazon.com a soothing, heatable stuffy here: https://www.amazon.com/Petstages-101-Puppy-Cuddle-Pal/dp/B0006MU8WC

We put this in their kennel each night (you heat in the microwave) and it gave them something warm to snuggle up with. We also used Petstages heartbeat stuffed toy (I can't see to find a link to them on the web) it simulated their mom's heartbeat and runs for approx 5 minutues.  Both were very soothing for the girls and we rarely had a crying, whining puppy at night in the kennel.

New puppies are so much fun!  Enjoy all the kisses & snuggles - take so many photos - no one ever gets tired of seeing puppies!!

Oh, and join Doodle Family on Facebook if you use Facebook - it is a wonderful group of Doodle owners/lovers.

Hi Jamie,

I have a 14 month old male Petite Mini F1B Golden doodle weighing in at 28 bls. Best dog ever! My 2 children have Allergies and Asthma. We have not had a problem with this dog. He doesn't shed (only a tiny bit when combing him out.) Make sure he is brushed once to twice a week or he will get mats. I also use Safflower Oil on Max's food. It helps his skin and fur. It's like giving fish oil without the smell but it will make the fur/hair look shiny and feel softer.

Make sure you give the puppy lots of exercise. When Golden Doodles don't have exercise they become destructive out of boredom.  They are highly intelligent dogs. Take the dog to training and socialization classes. It will be a great way for the children to get involved with understanding their new puppy and how to train him/her.

You made the right choice for a pet. Here are a few words to describe the Golden doodles lovable, friendly, amusing, intelligent, protective...... Truly this puppy will be worth your wait.

Purchase toys that are well built because the Poodle in the dog will want to chew. Cut all tags off stuffed toys because that is the weakest spot they will go for on the toys to rip apart. LOL!

My Max comes to our office and loves everyone he meets. He boost the moral in the office. He is a stress reliever.

I hope this helps.

Congratulations on your very wise choice of a Goldendoodle for your family...enjoy and love him.  It is hard to narrow it down to a favorite thing about my Labradoodle.  She is a miniature 30 pounds, long legs, cream color.  i just love her to pieces.  She is almost 4 years old now.  Love how she looks at me and tilts her head, greets me at the door, the games we play and on and on.  They are wonderful dogs, smart, loving and with the best disposition i have ever seen.  It is so nice to go somewhere and know she will be ok when she meets a new person, child, or baby.  Enjoy your lil guy/girl and please keep us posted with lots of pictures....

Raisin loves people and especially kids! We also do Agility, for fun, to keep his smart brain engaged! He really loves the stimulation and is very willing to try anything!

Your pup sounds great! He sounds perfect for your kids!

My favorite thing overall is that doodles are smart dogs. I notice this each and every time I am around some dogs in the family or friends' dogs who just aren't.  My favorite thing about Ned is his independent spirit, except when he is nervous - then he is my snuggle-bug.  My favorite thing about Clancy, my Disney dog, is how he talks to us and his toys. I am still learning about Charlie, our newest boy, but I love his gentle spirit.  He gazes into my eyes, he holds my hand between his paws. He needs us without being a nervous, needy dog.

My goldendoodle has a very sweet personality.  Not a mean bone in his body - he is a bit mischievous @ times.

He slept through the night from the day I brought him home @ 8 weeks.  If he had a rich treat and diarrhea he has had to go out in the night.  I am pretty careful what I feed him.

He loves to play fetch with a ball that squeaks or his frisbie.

We both learned alot @ puppy classes.

    Enjoy your puppy.
