Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Good Day,  I joined back in April as my husband and I were to get a Double Doodle. Unfortunately due to  a family emergency we had to wait for another litter. We are now on the same breeder's list for a Goldendoodle....SO EXCITED!

The pups were born on July 4th and we are seeing/picking our pup Saturday when they will be four weeks old.  We are 5th on the list for a litter of 8. This breeder is wonderful and although we didn't pick our pup till 7 weeks with the last litter, I trust she feels secure in her mom and dad and their babies.

My question to anyone who may have the time to respond is how do I pick a pup that will have a more wavy coat as an adult?  Currently according to photos sent, there seems to be some with some wave and some that seem straight. Do members have experience with pups that were straight as a pup but became wavy?

Although mom and dad have a wonderful personalities, as well as did their last litter, temperament testing will not be done for picking ( this was already done the day we picked the last pup). Has anyone picked a pup at 4 weeks?

Thank you for any information you can share. We will be bringing home our pup at the end of August. I'm sure I will be an active member then.

Have a lovely day,

K

Congratulations - what an exciting weekend coming up for you! Our first labradoodle was selected for us when he was about six or seven weeks old, and we picked our second one when she was seven weeks. I guess I would be very clear about what you are hoping for in terms of personality, and trust that the breeder is able to suggest a puppy or two from the remaining four that most closely match your desired temperament. If you communicate all of this before any of the picking begins, the breeder might be able to steer those who are selecting before you away from the pups who might be best for you. Sometimes people don't really care about personality and are choosing based on appearance. To answer your question about ultimately getting a dog with a wavy adult coat, I have never really heard of a straight-coated doodle getting wavier as they get older. Have fun and good luck!

Thank you Laurie,

Will be posting a picture of my new "baby" as soon as he/she comes home.

I don't think you can tell much at 4 weeks.

thank you for your reply

Four weeks is very young to choose so I would be guided by the breeder on temperament. Look for little waves on the ear flaps for a sign of a wavy coat but that's all I have at this stage...good luck.

You are right...I will need to just be guided by our breeder; she is a lovely woman.  Love your picture!
