Wally was doing so much better. He finished panacur last Friday and has had solid stools since... Until today. Around 11 am he had soft serve poo. I took him into bed with me for a nap around noon. Shortly before 2 I woke up to the sound of Wally puking. I took him out and he had diarrhea. Since then I've taken him out again where he again puked and had more diarrhea. He is currently looking at me like he should go out again. I called the on call vet and have not heard a response. She won't be able to respond until 9 and her answering machine recording suggested to take pets to another clinic if it's an emergency. However, Wally gets carsick so that would just be more puking.

I am at a complete loss. If I have to talk about it out loud I will probably cry. He has been through 3 rounds of panacur and 2 of metronidazole (bad I know). The panacur was for 5 days then 10 for the last 2 rounds. The metro was half a pill the first time and a whole one the second time. I would have to look up the exact dosage. Is there anything else? These options clearly aren't working. There has to be something else we can try. And do I feed him tonight? Wait until the diarrhea subsides? He is currently blocked into the living room where I have hardwood floors with his bowl of water and a couple old towels to lay on. I just want my baby to be better.

(Also, I do have him on proviable DC.)

Sarah, how many times has your vet run a fecal? Is he coming up positive for giardia?

He has tested positive twice. He's scheduled to have a fecal done again Monday to make sure we are in the clear finally. She just called back and suggested to treat it as if he ingested something and see how he is tomorrow. If things are worse to call her. And to catch the next sample. If there's blood she said to call.

You might consider asking for a prescription for Tylan. It's a very safe, benign antibiotic used in dogs with chronic digestive issues. Several of us here use it. It won't do a thing for giardia, but it does help a lot with bacterial imbalances. It can't hurt.

Thanks Karen. I'll keep that in mind!

Since Karen didn't mention it, I assume you and she have already discussed that your pup is on a quality probiotic and that he gets it at least 2 hours apart from the other meds.

I do want to say I'm very sorry you are having trouble. This can be so frustrating.
Hmmm. Do you pick up all poo? It's good if you can prevent it from even hitting the ground. Catch it on a paper plate,
bleach the grass if it does? Some people even wipe their dood's behind afterwards.

Thanks for your support, everyone! I dropped off a fecal today, and it turns out my little guy has coccidia now. I would imagine he got it at daycare earlier this week. (He loved daycare, but now I'll be hesitant to send him again.) Good news is he no longer has giardia! At least there's that. He has a prescription for 2 weeks of Albon, and then I'm hoping he will be in good health. I'd love for him to be well enough to switch his food to something better! Thanks again everyone!

Be sure to give him a good probiotic like Proviable DC while he's on the meds and for a couple of weeks after. It will really help.

Yep. He has been on it for a couple of weeks.
How's this little guy doing? It is so frustrating when they're little and sick. Hope he is well now! :-)
