Sounds (smells) like a yeast infection. They have a habit of reoccurring. The vet will take a sample of any "debris" in the ear canal and look at it microscopically to determine what the cause is and then prescribe accordingly. You must be vigilant in treatment as they can become chronic.
Infection. You need a diagnosis and medicine from the vet.
Perhaps a vinegar/water solution on a cloth on his beard and ear tips where he gets food
